i get confused about sugar.... some say you need it and some people say you don't need any.... i believe fruit is the best sugar in moderation ... but can you live just off of that as your substantial source of sugar or do you need other things with sugar in them?

Do you need fruit at all?

Please could someone clear this up for me lol! Thankyou!

You can live without sugar, as long as you eat enough complex carbs. Fruit is good for you, but you can live without it, provided you get enough fiber, vitamins and minerals from other sources.
I would keep eating fruits, they're not absolutely necessary, but they are worth the sugar intake for their benefits. Otherwise, you can go completely without sugar. Refined sugar amounts to empty calories.

If you try any sugar-free candies or sweets, though, watch out for sugar alcohol (artificial sweetener). It can have some nasty effects on your stomach -- too much can have a laxative effect and causes horrifyingly painful gas. Sorry if that's too much information... I had to learn it the hard way :0
Artificial sweeteners can be harmful to your body. Sugar is ok in moderation.
Ya.  And you can also live without carbohydrates, Protein, and Fats.  I mean Look at what the European population had to suffer during the holocaust.

The only place I obtain sugar is from vegetables & I am still alive and well.

You don't actually NEED sugar at all except as a source of energy... your body breaks everything that you put in your body down into sugars so that it can use them. 'Sugar' is just a more rapidly available form of it. And it tastes good. The natural sugars in fruit and milk won't hurt you. Trying to avoid them will do more harm than good to your diet because you'll also miss out on all the vitamins and minerals in the food.

To those people who say they have 'NO' sugar at all, do you use milk or dairy products? Milk has a ton of sugar in it straight from the cow but it's in the form of lactose.
