question about sweating!
I'm 3 weeks into the coolrunning.com couch to 5k thing, and I really like it. I've never been the type to just go out and jog/run/walk or generally exert myself unless I'm dancing. I've noticed that I don't sweat much when I'm running around. I mean, sure I smell a little funny, but it was kinda hot out today (I live in Florida) and my forehead never got beady. Then, I thought about it more... I really don't sweat much ever. I was getting all out of breath, though.
Does this mean I'm taking in too much salt? Does it mean I'm not working hard enough? Am I sweating a normal amount and just being paranoid?
*sigh* I know, I'm a dork.

Mom always tells me, "women don't sweat--they glow!"
I don't usually get very sweaty either. But I have been sweating a bit more when I work out since I started drinking more water. You could try drinking more water and see if that changes anything. Usually I get just a slight film of sweat, but hardly ever do I have actual droplets of water. I think you're probably fine and enjoy this while it lasts because I've heard it has a lot to do with age.

It's been pretty nice out in Florida recently. Perhaps that has to do with why you have not been sweating. You picked a good time to start running in Florida, that's for sure. Once the humidity kicks up it's like breathing in water. It's impossible. I live here as well.
The harder I workout, the more I sweat. That's the only advise that I can give. If you reach max heart rate or near it and still are not really sweating, I'd see a doctor.

My mom has a similar issue - she just doesn't sweat. She has to be careful in very hot weather or when exercising because she *will* overheat and pass out if she doesn't watch herself. Apparently sweating is another one of those things that's different for every person. Some people don't sweat at all, some people sweat buckets at the slightest exertion. Most people fall somewhere in between. I'd say just make sure you are drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day (more when you exercise,) and just pay attention to the way your body feels as you exert yourself. If anything feels alarmingly out of the ordinary, check with a Dr. :)
Yeah, I sweat buckets. =X
i sweat like a beast lol so im not sure if that's a glow haha. but, perhaps you arent hydrated enough. if you lack the fluids to sweat...then your body might not wanna givem up whatever fluids you do have...
Lucky...I glow like a friggin' pig :)
I sweat like hell :( I'd much rather be in your position! I sweat when I get embarrassed, when I'm in warm rooms other than at home, when I walk half a mile... it's crap!
I used to be a 'dry' exerciser. Could spend 1 hr at the TM running non stop with only minimal perspiration. Nowadays, I sweat buckets & river! It's crazy! the difference between now and then, Now, I drink a lot more water. Actually normal amount. Whereas before, I hardly drink water throughout the day. I could last awith only 1 glass of water from morning till dinner time. I think it was unhealthy...
I don't think the amt you sweat has anything to do with ow intense your workout is. Its all the heart rate and your Percieved rate of excertion If you can't carry on a conversation of more than one word you are getting a good work out.
I agree with others drink more water and you'll too join us who sweat like there is no tomorrow.

Before I started exercising regularly and drinking tons of water, it was a rare occasion, even when I exerted myself a lot, that I'd sweat.
Now, I sweat a ton. I don't know why it's changed for me, probably from drinking tons of water.

I don't get very sweaty unless I exercise myself half dead (which I do often, but meh) so you might just be lucky, because sweat is horrible :P
I think i remember hearing once that the more that you work out and the better shape you are in the more you sweat, because when your body isn't use to working out and your body has never needed to sweat like that, it simply takes a while for your body to get the message that sweating is a good thing, but if you are in really good shape, your body sweats more and starts sweating sooner because it knows what is coming and it wants to get an early start cooling you down
I've actually never really sweat much, either. even after a season in cross couuntry and knocking 7 minutes off my 1.5 k, i didn't sweat any more...and we always had water bottles lurking around (very water-conscious coach, lol) so hydration wasn't an issue. I just dont sweat. no matter what shape i'm in, no matter how much water's in my body, i just dont sweat. i have no idea why. I guess its a blessing :D
I sweat terrible too. On top of it I get TFS (tomato face syndrome...see post in fitness section). It takes about 15-20 minutes on the TM, but once I start sweating....it runs in rivers!
I'm drinking around 3 liters of water per day (12 oz??? I don't know but 2 liters is the recommendation). I DO NOT SWEAT. And I used to do sports all my life (except for the last three years). After 1 hour and a half of intense martial arts training my colleagues were wet (as if they were swimming all this time) and I was dry as a hot sunny day in the desert. I mentioned this to my doctor and he told me that this is the way my body reacts..nothing strange. I did not consider myself very lucky though, since all the toxines in my body are eliminated through my feet. Can you imagine the smell after an entire day in boots? I don't think so... Happily I found something that seems to work and now I may enjoy my "non-sweating" body.
So, spark, if you do drink enough water and still don't sweat you might be as lucky as some of as here.

I believe it has to do with genetics more than anything. My father always sweated buckets and I was fortunate enough to inherit this fun and pleasant trait, whether I'm working out or just relaxing. Regardless of whether I am acting like a camel or chugging water all day, the results are the same...waterlogged.
I am definitely jealous of you non-sweating people..my mom is one of those kind too...unfortunately, my dad is not.
It doesn't really help that I spend 8 months of the year in hot, sunny Miami and have to walk at least 10 minutes to all my classes everyday either! I spend an average of 60-90 minutes just walking to and from classes/the gym everyday...it's torture towards the summertime!
I'd say, if you feel okay at the end of your workouts, and don't feel dehydrated, that's just how your bodily is :)

Haha. Thanks everyone for the input!
I try to drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Hmm. Maybe the more I get out there and exercise, the more I'll sweat. I think I'm going to go test that theory right now, actually.
Distracted, it's been great weather... don't you wish it'd stay like this all the time?

I never used to sweat .... but off-late whilst am on the treadmill I sweat a lot ... I read somewhere that as your metabolic rate increases you happen to sweat more while exercising .... I hope thats true
