Question about tailoring pants?

Quote  |  Reply
Hey-

So- I lost 21 pounds since October.  I have been waiting since then to buy nice work clothes.  I'm starting my music therapy internship February 1, 2007.  I need business casual clothes.  I had to bite the bullet and do it this weekend. I spent $350.00 on new dress pants (grey, pinstripe, black, tan and new tops.) I couldn't fit into my old clothes because they were too big!

So- my question to you, I'm only half way there with my weight loss. So, if I lose more weight, I will have the same problem I just did. And with buying $70.00 pants because I'm an 8 or 10 short, I don't want to have to get rid of them in like a month.  Does anyone know if a tailor would be able to take in my good dress pants and about how much money would that be? Would it be cheaper to just buy new pants when I need to again? It was so hard to buy these new pants because I knew I would be not fitting into them really soon.  But I couldn't buy pants that were too small for me, because I need them in 2 weeks.

Thanks-
Kelly

bump up
Hi there, traffic on the site is slow on a Sunday and tomorrow is a holiday in the US. So you might want to try bumping your message on Tuesday, during working hours. I can tell you from personal experience, alterations are cheaper than buying new pants. Pick a seamtress you feel you can trust, most of those little mom and pop shops do a super fantastic job.
*bump* I would like to hear what anyone else has done as well.
I found an upscale consignment shop.  I sold some of my nicer clothes and used the money to buy a smaller size.  My closet isn't as full, but I have the basics.  Of course, I'm retired and wearing casual clothes most of the time, but I need dress clothes too.
Hello - tailoring is cheaper.  I've done it on some really nice pants that were just too big.

I definately agree with the "mom and pop" type places suggestion.  They'll do good work because it's their business.

Good luck!
