Questions again

I was just surfing through some other posts in other groups and found one about the burn meter.

What was said was that you should not have a deficiet of more than 1000 calories in a day, because you will plateau earlier.

Now yesterday I was at about an 1100-1200 deficiet but it was also a gym day for me and I burned 630 calories.  I took in about 1800 also for the day, which is not a lil amount.

Just curious if anyone else ever heard about this or has any insite.

Thanks!!

Yes, I've heard that, not with the specific number 1000 but that your deficit should not be too much over the recommended 700-800. My deficit is only that low on days I don't go to the gym; I may have a deficit of as much as 2000 on a gym day because I still only eat 1800 cal but I burn 600-1100 at the gym. Unfortunately, though I can relate, I don't have any insight. I also am not losing massive amounts of weight with this system so I don't think it's a lose big then plateau type situation, at least for me. The best measure for you would be, are you losing too much weight too fast? If you are then you'll plateau quickly for sure.

No help here , I don't really do exercise , I'm lazy Smile I do hope that improves as I lose weight ? I've only lost 17.2 lbs so far so only time will tell I guess and had a gain of 2.2 lbs this week even though I've stuck with 1200 calories a day ? so I'm still new at this . I will be looking to see how others answer this question though.

i have lost 5 pds since starting on the 24th i dont know if that is good all i knows is that in the mornings i feel good but but 2 or 3pm i feel really irratible and not very patient which is not me i am very upbeat and i dont like this feeling but i just dont feel good i feel real tired and just icky i know i need to get some vitamins and i will and i know i need to do some exercising and i will i just dont feel like exercising because i feel so crappy any ideas

Do the exercising anyway...even if you just get out for a walk for 20-30 mins....but get moving.  Trust me, I went through this and it will pass!!!!

It's only been 6 days for you and it took me 14 before I really started to feel it all.

thanks sammarieob i needed that reasurance because i am feeling a little down about it i will hang in there and keep up the work thanksCool

Sounds like your blood sugar is dropping in the afternoons.  Try a snack that includes a bit of protein...like a few peanut butter crackers, or apple and low fat cheese or cottage cheese and strawberries...

See if it helps to break your meals in to 5-6 small meals a day (if you are already doing that, look at their content).

Edited to ask...are you really cutting back on your sodium?  Changes in electrolytes can make you really tired, too.  Be sure you get enough calcium and potassium and water.  And don't cut out too much sodium or drink so much water it washes out your electrolytes.

The general rule is that you should lose 1-2lbs a week - so that's a deficit of 500-1000 calories a day.

HOWEVER, a more accurate amount is 1-2% of your current bodyweight - and the typical weight is always around 150lbs for the calculations.  So right there, someone who weighs 250lbs could shoot for a 4lb loss per week.

Because of the prevalence of crash diets and unhealthy techniques, the regular warnings against losing faster are

  • More likely to gain it back
  • Less energy
  • loss of lean muscle mass
  • and so on

The other number to consider is your maximum calorie expenditure.  This is the theoretical number that can be burned before breaking down muscle.

This link will give you a breakdown of your numbers: http://www.phord.com/cc/

Personally, I consider the detriment of being at this weight to be more serious than if I lose 4+ lbs a week.  I make sure I get enough fiber and protein, eat lots of fruit, and even take a multi-vitamin daily.  My strength and endurance are through the roof compared to where I was 2 months ago, I've gone down 2 pants sizes, 1 shirt size, and have lost 55lbs so far.
