First some backround im 6 foot even 238 as of this morning 27 year old male.  My first goal is to be 200 by easter my bmi for those that are wondering is over 30.  Now for the question.

I have been counting my calories for 2 days now and have been eating around 1100-1300 calories.  The site says i should be eating around 1800 calories Is this a bad thing. please note that i get in about 20 minute of hard exercise in the mornings before breakfast. i usually do not feel hungry at any point during the day except for when i get up in the morning. Is this bad?

this is VERY VERY VERY bad!! you are literally starving yourself and even 1800 is much too low for someone of your size. you should be able to lose on 2000-2200 calories. at moderately active your burn 3250 calories and you shouldn't have more than a 1000 calorie deficit. you will damage your metabolism beyond belief in a short amount of time if you don't quickly eat an appropriate amount for weight loss.

Happy Birthday! And short answer yes, it's bad.

First of all, at your current height, weight and activity level you burn 2880 calories a day to live. To diet safely, you should consume 2000 to 2200 calories a day. This creates a deficit that will allow anywhere from .5 to 2 lb loss per week. This is maintainable long term weight loss that will reduce the chance of rebounds and binges from dangerous restriction dieting (which you are doing now).

So, you need to do two things:

  1. Eat 3 meals with 2 snacks throughout the day that add up to that 2000 or so calories every day.
  2. Recognize that if you have tended to restrict and binge over the past few years, then initially you may even gain weight but this will be short-lived until your metabolism adjusts to becoming more active and then the pounds will slowly and steadily come off from there.

um hedgren my birthday is June 25.   Umm im not restriction deiting i eat till im full then log the calories. So 3 600 calorie meals and a couple hundred calorie snacks?

3-600 calories meals and a few snacks would be perfect!!

LOL - I read like it was your birthday, too - gotta use some commas!

About calories - you have gotten some good advice here.

I just posted the same type of problem as you.  There's a lot to learn about our bodies isn't there!  I'm in the same boat as you, just been told I'm not losing any more weight because I'm just not eating enough calories even though I feel great and I'm not hungry.

Sure seems weird being told I'm not eating enough but I believe those who are having success so I will make myself consume more and see how it goes.

I think you're going to have great success since you seem to be motivated and this can obviously work for you!  I see myself as being successful at weight loss once I figure out exactly what my body needs (finally) therefore you can too!

Good luck to you!  I know you can do it!!!
