Questions about how many calories my body is burning???

Quote  |  Reply
Okay, I'm 5'9",  large frame and 196 lbs.

For the last 2-3 months I've been exercising regularly. Mostly cardio...walking/jogging on the treadmill.

Other than the exercise than I would be considered sedentary. Now when I'm picking which activity level I am, should I pick sedentary and than add in the exercise on the days I do it? OR is my body actually burning more calories every day, even days I don't work out, because I do exercise regularly?? Hopefully that makes sense!

I've been here for 2 months now and all this time I've had my account set on sedentary. That says I burn 2000 calories and then I would add in whatever exercise I did. The problem is, if I eat on avaerage 1500-1600 calories, with a deficit of about 600-700, I'm so hungry in the evening/night/morning... If I do that for a week or 2, than I stop losing and my matabolism seems to slow.

So that makes me think that maybe I should have my activity level higher and still add in my workouts??? Am I making any sense???

It's so confusing!

I know its the rudest question ever but how old are you? If you're 20 or under, then you can afford to eat more and still lose weight...

Go into your account, and using the analysis thing, check how much protein and fibre you have been averaging - these will both make you feel fuller when you are eating.

Also, try and listen to your body. If you're TRULY hungry, and need food, then have some - just make it healthy, like an apple or something. You may have a fast metabolism or something...

And try and get 30 minutes of exercise a day - even if its just walking, every little helps!

I'm 22 and yes I'm done growing! At 5'9", I better be!

I do watch my percentages alot. I try to keep my sodium under 2000 and my fiber above 30g. My cards are usually 50-60%, protein 20-30% and fat 20%. I drink over 12 cups of water a day and almost everyday have a Grade A.

Yes, this is true hunger, I'm not just craving food or anything. I've gotten quite good at ignoring my burning stomach when I go to bed at night. Even if I eat a small snack before bed, I feel hungry again in about a half hour.

I spend 30 minutes(almost all jogging) on the treadmill 3 times a week and then another day of walking on the treadmill for an hour to an hour and a half.

Than I try to get at least 2 days where I do some light weights or some sort of strengthening exercises.
Hi Melanie!

I asked CC moderators the same question about my activity level...was I light or moderate? They told me I was somewhere between the two. That left it for me to decide.

So, I've decided to log in as LIGHT when figuring my calories because there are really only 200 calories difference and I'd rather be on the side that's figuring fewer calories rather than allowing myself too many calories.

Does THAT make any sense?
Thanks girls!

Also thanks to thise thread....

I believe I just got my answer. So I'm not supposed to eat under 1730 calories at this point since that's what my BMR is. Which explains why my matabolism was slowing down with the lower calories.
