questions about water, supplements & music to work out to!

hey everybody - this is my first day on CC and so far i'm really impressed by the site and how involved everyone is. it's very inspirational. let's just hope i can keep it up.

fyi, a bit about me: i'm 23, 5'2'' and about 128 currently. i recently lost about 10 lbs and i'm looking to shed 10 more by November!

anyway, as i'm sure you all know there are a bajillion dieting myths out there so i was wondering if you all have any advice/experience about these topics:

1. i know the general rule is "the more water, the better" - but is it possible to drink too much water? i typically take full advantage of my company's water cooler (about 5 bottles a day on avg). how much does everyone drink?? are there any down sides (aside from spending 1/3 of my day in the ladies' room haha)

2. i've heard that it's helpful to take vitamin C each night before bed. something about it speeds up your metabolism apparently? any truth to that?

3. has anyone heard of or tried FucoThin by Garden of Life? it's an all-natural, organic weight loss supplement. it's gotten some good reviews and a friend of mine said it helped give her a little boost and get her out of a plateu. any opinions?

4. lastly, i've managed to trick myself into (almost) liking the treadmill. the key, i've found, is really good music. but i'm getting sick of my collection - anyone have suggestions of great upbeat songs i can download that are good to run/walk to??

thanks friends! good luck to everyone - Katie

1) Water intoxication can happen when  you drink too much water. Your body has so much water that it dilutes the sodium and it has the effect of intoxication. Takes a lot though. I drink, like, at least a gallon a day.

2) No idea. Sorry!

3) Also no idea. But it sounds neat.

4) Eye of the Tiger, all the way! Especially on the treadmill! I HATE running, but that song, sometimes on loop, keeps me going! And it's kind of long, too.

Welcome!!!

1) Yes you can overdrink but you're doing fine.

2) I doubt it because recent studies are showing that vitamins in pill form do nothing at all for your health because they don't absorb into your body the same as vitamins from food.

3) No idea, but I dislike the idea of using supplements in general.

4) It depends what you mean by upbeat haha. Just try and find new music you enjoy.

If taken with food, vitamin supplements do get absorbed into your body.

Hey, try taking a multivitamin with iron to start, then as you learn more, you can get a sense of your specific needs. Healthful eating is always important though.

Here are a few of my favorite workout songs:

"Mercy". Duffy

Rocky theme song.

"Fergalicious", Fergie (feat Will I Am).

"No One (remix)", Alicia Keys.

"Maneater", Nelly Furtado.

"American Boy", Estelle (feat. Kanye West).

"Beautiful Girls", Sean Kingston.

Some of these just perk me up pre-workout, and others are perfect while hitting the pavement or gym or whatever. For upbeat songs, try googling "aerobics songs" or "aerobics songs 2009".

Eye of the Tiger = The Rocky Theme Song!!!

Isn't it awesome?

thanks for your suggestions!

currently i've been listening to stuff like:
push it - salt n' peppa
how will i know - whitney houston (remix)
girlfriend - avril levine (kinda hate the song but it makes me run well haha)
gossip folk - missy elliot
dirrty - christina aguilera
disturbia - rhianna

(plus a bunch more which are great but they all kinda loose their effect when u hear 'em over and over, ya know?) keep posting music ideas!

They have to be foods that have that specific vitamin in them from what I hear. I could be wrong, but that's what I've heard. If the food already had the vitamin in it why would you take the pill?
