Quiche, pies and recipe
Hey all, (i italicised the important bits - I waffle on so much)
My Auntie's Birthday is coming up and she was talking about not having a deep-enough quiche dish.
Online the deepest quiche dishes are only about 5-6cm, but I think she wants a deep dish, like the huge quiches and lasagnes' you get a the coffee club and gourmet cafes.
So I thought for her b'day I'd try and get her one. Should I ask the store for a deep pie dish? Maybe a lasagne one? And what sort of size? i'm thinking the deeper it is, the smaller it should be. Will that cook ok? It should have straight sides too right> I'm pretty sure she wants it round.
Also, to go with the pressie I'm making her a cookbook for the new dish. It'll have various quiches - regular and low fat, I;m thinking some bakes/pies, and some simple desserts. Anyone have a fav recipie you think I should have? Esp if its unconventional. Eg, for lasagne using tortillas instead of pastsa sheets as they are round and cuttable.
Thanks!!

Oh and whats the normal pie size? 20cm? That way she can use a pre-made pie base, right?
I use a fluted tart pan with a removeable bottom for quiche. Works great and looks very pretty on the plate with the outside rim of the pan removed. My tart pan is a little deeper than a pie plate.
Ooo I might look for one of those.
I've collected some recipies, and will post them soon. I've added a section of alternative crusts and how to "healthify" the recipies.
I have quiches, pies (savoury and sweet) bakes, casseroles, puddings and I added her fav torte (a cadbury recipe). I might not post the "evil" recipies here - too tempting!

I have an out of the ordinary, but very good lasagna recipe -- and it could be made in a round dish, if that's what you get: Pesto Polenta Lasagna. Here's the link for it -- it's really tasty and pretty healthy: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Pesto-Polenta-La sagna/Detail.aspx
Polenta, if you haven't had it, is basically cooked cornmeal which hardens into a 'cake' when cooled. Very easy to make. Enjoy!
