QUICK breakfast ideas!

Quote  |  Reply

I am a mother of 2 small boys.  I work full time and my husband stays home with the kids during the day, if i had him try to cook me breakfast(or dinner) i'd be so skinny from refusing to eat his bad cooking...lol

In the morning, I get up shower, dress, play with the kids, and before i know it i'm rushing out of the door to the car and realize i havent eaten breakfast.  I have tried for a year now to make time for me in the morning, but it just doesnt work.

I do pack my lunch for the day, every night mostly leftovers from dinner. I can microwave food at work but everything i see at the store that is microwavable is  BAD for you.

Any ideas?

Slim fast breakfast bars..are they actually OK to eat on a diet?

Can you re-heat eggs if i cook an omlet the night before and not get sick from it?

Hope these arent stupid questions...but I really need BREAKFAST HELP!!!

How long do you have?

No-Time Breakfasts:

  • homemade muffin (made on weekend or on an evening; aim to make something with oats, bran, etc. in it), piece of fruit and glass of milk
  • same as above but with one of the healthier granola bars instead of the muffin (look for reasonably high fibre and protein content; reasonably low sugar content; I *love* Quaker's Oatmeal-to-Go bars but will admit they're pretty sugar-y)
  • plain yogurt and fruit (prepped the night before and stored in a plastic tub in the fridge), a few almonds (or other nut) portioned out the night before
  • whole grain cereal and milk (or if, like me, you don't like soggy cereal, have the milk in a glass instead of over the cereal) with a piece of fruit

2-Minute Breakfasts:

  • microwave oatmeal with berries: 1/3 cup oats + 3/4 cup water; microwave for 1 minute; mix in 1/2 cup berries and microwave for 30 seconds more
  • microwave scrambled eggs: I think they take about 60 seconds or so to make; essentially, you're making an omelette then breaking it up when you stir; you could sprinkle grated cheese over top (grated the night before) and even toss in some pre-chopped veggies (chopped the night before and kept in a plastic tub)
  • whole grain toast with cream cheese (or melt regular cheese on top); a piece of fruit

This is my favorite.....about 4 minutes start to finsh

Spray a little cooking oil in a cearl bowl and crack an egg into it.

Beat it up with a little milk and add all your omlette stuff (ham, turkey, peppers, mushrooms, onions, etc) - the kids can pick their own.

Microwave on high for 1.5 to 2.5 minutes. Slide the 'omlette' onto a tortilla, toss on a little cheese and a tiny bit of salsa. Roll it up and go! Or wrap it and eat it on the way to work

I also do 'fried' eggs for sandwiches this way - just make sure you break up the yokes or they will explode all over the palce if you don't

WOW didnt know you can microwave eggs... learn something new everyday! I had salminella (sp) once wheni was younger, so i have always made sure my eggs were cooked VERY WELL done... i will have to ry that ! THANKS

My two favorite breakfast go-tos are both about 200-calories and include:

1 bag of flavored instant oatmeal. (Lately, I've been doing the ACTIVE LIFESTYLE brand, because it helps with weight loss with amped up fiber.)

And if you have time to prepare a little something, try:

1/3 cup Low Fat Vanilla Yogurt + 1/3 Low Fat Granola Cereal + 5oz (about 1-cup) of sliced strawberries. The yogurt is just enough to lightly coat the cereal and strawberries and tastes just as yummy as a breakfast treat.

Fiber 1 tastes like carboard to me. But the Special K Satisfaction is great. My husband even eats it after his heavy lifting. Lots of protein and yummy nutrients. I love it. I eat it dry with some fruit when I'm working.

Special K is nothing but air and chemicals as far as I can see.  A better choice would be something like Kashi GoLean.  It's high in fiber and the carbs are the good, whole grain kind.  The crunch is very satisfying.

Go for real food, not over processed junk.  I'm sorry if this offends Special K fans, but I really don't see the point of eating air.  An airy cereal with no additives - puffed rice or puffed wheat - not very tasty though.

edited to add:  other good cereal choices are Uncle Sam, shredded wheat or plain oat bran flakes.  Take a piece of fruit and milk, and there's your breakfast, at your desk.

Ahh I love breakfast!

One idea is a nut butter and banana sandwich, with maybe a spinkle of cinnamon. This can even be made the night before and heated up in the toaster in the morning, with a glass of milk or some yogurt on the side.

Or a quick smoothie made from fruit, yogurt or milk, protein powder, a few tablespoons of flax seed, juice, whatever you want.

Yogurt and muesli? This is actually better if made the night before cause the muesli absorbs the yogurt and is all puffed up and delicious by morning.

Oatmeal is really best on the stovetop but can also be made just fine in the microwave, with any mix-ins you please.

I wait till I get to work then I eat packaged oatmeal made with water and add either applesauce or lite canned fruit.

Some of my friends keep boxes of cereal at their desks.

I've also brought in yogurt.

When in a rush I'll toast whole wheat bread, spread peanut butter and jelly.

in my opinion one of the biggest diet myths is to cut out carbs, in my opinion its very important to have a whole grain carb in the morning it give you energy along with protein. I balance all my meals to have whole grain carbs, proteins and good fats.

 my two breakfast faves:

Big bowl of kashi go lean crunch with fresh blueberries if im in a rush. or

Two slices whole grain toast with a little butter, yogurt with fresh fruit and a little granola with nuts.

I love having the 100 Calorie bagel or english muffin in the morning. I usually toast that while I'm microwaving egg whites, broccolli (or spinach) with some mozz cheese. Sometimes I just make a ham sandwich.

If I don't even have time for that I'll grab a fiber one bar that I can eat in the car, but I usually pack an apple in my purse. Fiber one bars are really filling to me if I've already had food for some reason, but if it's first thing in the morning I'm going to want a snack before lunchtime.

I'd forgotten another one of my work day breakfast tricks (I'm retired, so it doesn't matter any more.)

Take a yogurt and have some granola or other nice crunchy stuff with it, at your desk.  It's neat to eat and satisfying as well.  It's neat to eat and no clean up if you use a plastic spoon.

For breakfast I like total but I do NOT like soggy cereal, so I found online (they have stores too but I ordered my stuff):

http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product. jhtml?CATID=74067&PRODID=10022692

It's for cereal on the go, the top part holds I believe 1 1/2 cup cereal and the bottom screws off and you freeze it (there's this gel stuff in the walls that freezes) and in the morning put your milk in and screw it to the other piece, keeps the milk seperate and cold until you want to eat, even has a spoon included in the lid! I also got a cool salad tupperware that has a seperate reservoir for dressing! I pack my breakfast and lunch the night before, I start work at 6 so I'm usually not hungry til 7:30 so it's more conveniant to eat at work.  Here's the link below for all the food-to-go stuff:

lately I love to have a double-fiber oroweat english muffin(I like the taste better than regular ones, less sour) with wildflower honey on one side(just a tiny twirl) and fresh almond butter on the other. eat with fruit, and if you're bad, a sugar free red bull woohoooo! I usually don't feel hungry for 2.5 hours at least.

I eat oatmeal every day these days (I make it at work).  1/3 cup + 2/3 cup water + some frozen berries or banana.  Microwave on high 3 minutes at 50% power.

Before I got on my oatmeal kick, I ate an apple every day for breakfast.  Rinse & go - you can't get much easier than that!

Kashi products are so good - taste good and good for you.

I find that I am not very hungry in the morning but I know how important it is to eat. I usually grab a banana and a Kashi bar and eat on the way to work.
