Any quick lunch ideas?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm in school right now (finally a senior!) and I was wondering what's a quick, easy lunch that's relatively low-cal and can be packed for in-class consumption?

Any ideas at all would be helpful.

How do you feel about tuna?

You can get tuna cups, about 3-3.2 oz each, individually sealed that don't have to be refrigerated.  That along with either four rye crackers or two rice cakes, a baggie of baby carrots, freeze dried apple snacks, and a bottle of diet tea is what I have for lunch about twice a week (at work, not in class, but same basic idea).  About 300-350 calories for everything, and rather filling.

I've just become a senior as well! I've been packing either a turkey or chicken sandwich on wheat with light mustard, sometimes lettuce. Then I wrap it in aluminum foil and I'm done! As well, there are some veggie snack packs that are in those plastic containers! Sorry, hope that was somewhat helpful!

don't go too low cal, your brain needs fuel! Save your calories elsewhere.

one idea - fruit and nuts. whatever fruit is in season (apples and pears now) with some nuts and/or seeds...walnuts (6 halves is a serving), almonds, pepitas, sunflower seeds, all very healthful. just watch the portion sizes, nuts are calorie dense but they're great brain food!

i would personally stay away from tuna while at school. i love the stuff but the smell isn't always appealing to those around you (especially if you're eating it in a classroom not the cafeteria). i always brough grapes or a bar like Pria or Luna.
I'll have to agree with vmcbutterfly. I've tried the whole tuna thing, and, needless to say, my classmates were NOT happy. Same for chicken salad. I think I will just go for chicken or turkey on wheat, with fruits and veggies to munch on. That sounds relatively safe and non-smelly. Thanks for the advice, guys.
i love mexican, and black beans in particular. my favorite lunch is a 1/2 c of black beans from the can, rinsed and drained, mixed with salsa and shredded lettuce. i can't say no to cheese either, so i usually mix in a serving of lowfat shredded cheddar too. the little glad reusable/throwaway containers are a perfect size.my own little taco salad.but you have to really love black beans. mmmmmm oh and another good snack is crudites and hummus. mmm hummus. so much better than ranch or veggie dip for all of your raw veggies.
