Good for you! I haven't had pop in........I can't remember!!!!

I gave up Coke about a year ago now.

When I started counting calories and looking at the nutrition information for the foods I was eating, I just couldn't "afford" the calories for Coke.  I don't drink diet drinks because they taste wretched to me, so it was the full-calorie version or nothing.

I think it also helped that in the back on my mind I knew I shouldn't really be drinking coke anyway.

I marvel at how our bodies continue to function when we don't feed them things like water, fruits, or vegetables--I don't even want to think about what/how I used to eat.  I'm positive my body is MUCH happier now!

I stopped drinking pop 3 months or so ago and  KNOW my body feels better. i had done it once for over a year (about a year before stopping this time), and then got off track with my eating/drinking habits. I just remind myself that it's much better to drink something my body needs.  On those days where something fizzy sounds good, try to stay focused and remember that you are doing yourself some good.
I'm trying to stop drinking pop and 22 days is amazing!! I've only stopped drinking it often for 2 weeks but I had a bottle this past weekend as a treat. For me, I think I have to stop gradually like coming off an addiction, cuz thats what it is for me. Any tips on how you curb cravings?

what does GERD mean in op's post?

I know i need to quit drinking coke zero, but its hard!

I quit carbonated drinks several years ago when I became pregnant with my first child and now I may have a 7up or Sprite every few months or so. The carbonation seems to bother me now.  I do notice not feeling so bloated because of it but didn't notice any big weight difference from not drinking it but I was pregnant. Most things I read says to give up soda so it should have some benefits. Good luck~

That is fantastic! I have cut back on my Diet Dr. Pepper intake and have replaced it with my 8 glasses of water, but I am totally addicted to Diet DP and am not ready to give it up completely.
I stopped drinking alcohol for the most part last November (excluding holiday events). Then I quit drinking soda and alcohol completely about 2 months ago, and at first it was so hard to resist, and then it became easier and easier. I strongly feel that I didn't even like the junk, I was purely addicted. Now I feel better, and I intake way less calories than I used to. Now I don't have to try too hard to stay under my daily limit. Now, in the last month or so, I actually quit drinking any other liquid besides water. That has been the best! I make sure to get my fruit from FOOD not juice, which usually has sugar added to it and other things to preserve it. Water actually seems to make my food taste better too. I used to drown the taste out with carbonated drinks, and fill myself up on that junk. Now what I put in my body is not only more filling than soda, it actually has nutrients that soda lacks. Totally keep up the great work!

Good for you! What's your secret?

I used to drink three or four sodas a day and I'm down to one a day now (at least most days). For some reason, I associate eating and soda together. I don't want a soda unless I'm eating so when I am hungry I feel like I can't eat unless I have a soda with the meal.

I gave up diet soda a year ago. I read an article about aspertane toxicity. Some of the symptoms were foggy thinking, sluggishness, sore muscles and increased appetite. I had all the symptoms so I switched to regular soda. (The article said it would take 60 days to get aspertane out of your system.) The one thing I noticed was that after giving up diet soda, I didn't crave sweets as much and I would actually would feel full when eating.

About 2 months ago I tried diet soda again and noticed that within two days I was always starving and craving sweets so I went back to regular. Now, I need to move on to water.

major props to all of you who have quite drinking sodas. I tried it a few times, and have determined that I cannot function without caffiene.  In fact, I drag myself to chick-fil-a at 6:30 every morning on my way to school and order a huge diet dr. pepper to help wake me up. I am sure it is not good for me, but i also know what i am like without caffeine, and that is not a pretty picture. I respect anybody who can give it up!
I can't even remember what "regular" soda tastes like, I've been drinking diet for so long! I save it for when I'm really craving sweets--nothing to finish off a meal like an A & W Diet Rootbeer!!  Probably (no, definitely) terribly unhealthy, but what you do?
I gave it up 3 years ago I think, for lent. I hadn't had any soda in a while anyway, so it was pretty easy to be like "okay, not drinking it at all now"

I don't think I really felt better though, just the same. I always drank caffiene free anyway, so the whole caffiene issue wasn't there

If it's really just about the caffeine, why dont you aquire the taste of coffee? Black* coffee is actually really good for you and holds a lot of caffeine. Or you could use peppermint tea or ingest a drop or two of PURE peppermint oil-this has the potency of more than 2 cups of coffee caffeine-wise.

(*coffee becoms bad for you the lighter the brew and the more stuff you put in it, but dark black coffee is great for your memory, attentiveness and creates a healthy boost of energy in your body-still drink in moderation so not to become addicted)
