I quit smoking 45 days ago, gaining weight
I quit smoking 45 days ago and am gaining weight without eating extra.
I am trying to stay under 1600 calories, but its hard not to eat in place of
smoking.
I exercise daily, sometime twice a day.
I have read that people gain 10-15 lbs after quiting, but I thought that was due to overeating.
Anyone else having trouble with weight gain after giving up the smokes?
Smoking does have a small effect on your metabolism...not enough to outweigh the benefits of quitting to be sure. So first congratulate your self on this very healthy step. A couple of questions? Are you using any form of product to quit? That might account for incremental weight changes right now. Remember weight can flucuate greatly due to water retention and hormones as well.
Try moving around for short burst. ie like taking a smoke break but walking briefly instead .or some deep breathing ex. to help keep your metabolism up. Keep up the good work
Hi Carolejuul,
When I quit- I noticed I just needed something to do with my mouth besides smoking. I think that's sort of where the 10-15lb estimate comes from. Also, nervous reaction, rationalizing that everyone gains weight when they quit, etc. Have you tried chewing gum?
Congrats on taking the plunge- it's challenging but you can do it!
Cold turkey,
I do go outside and breath in fresh cold air for a while sometime and kind of pretend to smoke.
I know that smoking increases youe metabolism and I can always take off the extra weight later.
I also had a hysterectomy two months ago and am dealing with some belly bulge issues that really bother me.
I have always been fit and slim. It brings me down to carry a few xtra pounds and have to hide my stomache.
I am very proud of myself for quiting, I smoked for 30 years. Never very much but always a few a day.
I quit nearly 3 years ago-and i won't sugar coat it. i never had an extra pound on me till i quit. now i'm trying to sustain motivation to take 40# or so off. keeping fresh fruit really curbs my sweet tooth. I have a bad sweet tooth since i quit smoking. I 've had other past smokers tell me your taste buds come back a little too good when you quit. But i will get this weight down eventually, and I never want to smoke again!!! I am greatful to not worry about buying them running out of them and all the excess cleaning to get rid of the smell of them. for me , i feel i have just replaced one anxiety outlet for another-food. so i am working on relearning a new way to do that. but i don't want cigs any more! Hang in there and don't smoke. one thing at a time! &nbs p; jennifer lanteri
Remove stimulant that your body has been getting regularly and you have weight gain. Its not just from overeating that quitters gain weight from, its also because your body needs to adjust to the fact that yuo no longer are feeding it a stimulant. It happened to me too. As long as you workout your body should bounce back pretty quickly.
does Ionix Supreme cpmtain any caffine.
low energy has been a problem, but I also kick the caffine habbit a few months
ago and have found that most energy boosting supliments contain caffine.
Also- when I quit smoking I picked up a chewing gum habit. I chew it constantly. It helped me not eat everything in sight, but now I'm stuck chewing it all the time. I guess it could be worse - I could be sucking poisonous fumes.
I am really not eating more, in fact I am making an effort to eat less than I did before.
I an working out more than before because I dont want to gain weight.
I have heard horror stories about how much some people have gained after they quit.
I am older, almost 50, so maybe my body is just changing
Grats in quitting! I'm on Month 10 now and love it!
reead the ingredients above, there is not stimulants. Supplements are important, thats my opinion. Having stuffed many calories of food into my body for years and not feeling full, i am proof of that. our food has devalued in nutrient over the years because of over farming, over processing, and soil erosion, etc, so we are eating, but the nutrition our food once had is not there, so you need to supplement. UN did a study on this a couple years ago, recommending supplementation.
anyways, thats my opinion, and i'm sure we all have ours, we have to find what works and thats why we are here to share. add me as a friend and maybe we can talk more if you like!! :-)
And after you check out (((ISAGENIX!!!!))), you can check out (((AMWAY!!!))) and (((HERBALIFE!!!))), I hear that they also have miraculous products that will FIX EVERYTHING WRONG WITH YOUR BODY AND LIFE!!! All for only just 9 easy payments of $39.99!!!! I used to be a short fat slob working at McDonald's but now with Dave Del Dotto's Cash Flow Secrets©, I'm a thin, tall multi-multi-millionaire with a bevy of bimbos on my yacht!

I realize this original post is a year old - but wondering how everyone's quitting smoking has gone and for rbenum...how long does it take to have everything get back to normal? I am on 1 1/2 months and don't feel normal yet....fell off for two days - but don't think that should have started me back at square one. I am working out and watching what I eat, but the scale goes up :( I haven't given up on quitting - but I wanted to lose 5 pounds - now I need to lose 10. Other peoples experience/timeframes would be helpful. Thanks.
