Quitting Bulimia and getting headaches

Quote  |  Reply

Tomorrow marks the 2 weeks period since my last binge and purge, and although it didn't start out right away, I've noticed myself getting headaches more and more frequently. I don't usually ever get headaches, but I would suffer from a lot of fatigue.  I've just noticed over the past 3 days or so that my head starts pounding.  Is it possible that the two are related, or am I probably getting these headaches from another source?  I'm by no means under-eating, and if anything I still need to cut back on my calories to lose weight (I'm 5'10, 164 lbs).  Anothing thing though, is that when I get those overwhelming desires to binge eat, I've been drinking 16 oz bottles of diet citrus green tea (trying to give up all diet soda) in less than 15 seconds.  Could this be causing my headaches?  Sometimes I just get so antzy and want to fill up quickly so mimick the feeling I get when I binge eat, so I'll drink a lot of that tea or water, or just stuff myself silly on fruit and rice cakes. Still, the headaches didn't start until the other day...and I'm only wondering whether or not it's from not purging, or from something else.

Well I know that I tend to get headaches on days when I drink massive amounts of caffeine (like I sometimes do at work.)  For awhile it really scared me, but I watched the pattern and I could tell it happened after I drank a ton of caffeine.  Because green tea has quite a bit of caffeine, and you're drinking such a large quantity in such a short amount of time, it could be that this might be giving you headaches.  Just a thought, by no means the only explanation.

Dear BucketofGlitter

I just joined this site myself because I am starting the journey to quit B&P-ing.  I noticed this post was over a year ago.  How is your recovery going now?  I would love to receive some advice/ motivation on how you got through it.  I have tried to quit so many times but never lasted more than 3 or 4 days.  So 2 weeks is quite an accomplishment!  (in my book)  Baby steps right?  I am hoping by monitoring myself through this website will help.  But at the same time, I don't want to obsess about every single calorie I intake.  That's how I became bulimic in the first place..

Oh the cycle of ED is a painful one.  As far as your headaches, it could be due to your body adjusting to the drastic change of in-taking thousands of calories at a time (then purging) to very low amt of calories, filled by empty liquids.  And yes, like ratinhat mentioned, green tea does have a sufficient amt of caffeine, which on an empty stomach can be the cause of your headaches.

I truly hope you're in a much better stage of your recovery today than a year ago.  I could use some success stories to affirm that there is hope for me...

Best regards.
