Quitting the gym! Now What?

Quote  |  Reply

I want cancel my gym membership to save money, but before I do, do you all have any suggestions as to how I can get a GOOD workout from home?

Right now, I spend about 1.5-2 hours at the gym daily, so it's not like I don't use the gym but I'm finding that I really can't afford it and want to switch to working out from home. I'm willing to buy the bare necessities (i.e. dumb bells, medicine balls, jump rope etc.) to get me going.

I'm going to start running or doing some other type of aggressive cardio, but I'm worried about toning properly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Can't help much with strength training but cardio can be done many ways.  There are cardio dvds, jump rope, powerwalking/jogging outdoors.

There's swimming too.  I live in a city with city parks and pools so it's really cheap.  We have city-run gyms too for a dollar a day.  Maybe check with your parks and rec dept.

If you haven't started strength training yet, then know that calisthenics will be a good start.

There's tons of stuff that you can do at home for strength and toning - and you don't even need to buy anything. Just by using your own body weight for resistance, you can get a decent burn.

For your upper body, do pushups and dips (using a chair or stairs). For your lower body, do lunges and squats. If you combine those activities with stuff for your core like crunches and planks, you'll get a pretty decent workout - even better when you take into account that you'll also be running outdoors.

Thank you so much! I'm so scared to quit my gym but I really need to for $$$ sake. I'll definitely start incorporating your suggestions into my home workout!
