I am on week 4 of the couch to 5k plan. I have not had to repeat a workout yet and if I keep at this pace I will have been able to run a 5k without stopping for 4 weeks before the race. However, just in case I get to the race and feel like I need to take a walking break I'm wondering if I'll be the only one walking. The race I am attending is also at slightly higher altitude and I'm a bit worried about that. Any thoughts? Will I look stupid for having to take a walking break?

I've done several 5K fundraisers (including Race for the Cure) and have always walked for the entire time - and I wasn't alone.

I did the Race for the Cure and a lot of people walked/ran it. You will not be alone!!!

I did it two? years ago.  It was actually the most fun 5K I have ever run.  There are people of every pace so don't worry and yes people walk.  Not sure where yours will be but for me it was also the flattest 5K i've ever run (:  Also they give out lots of free stuff, which is always fun haha.

I did it with my 2 & 4 yr olds and we weren't even close to last to finish!

I think that everyone is really just there for the cause :o)

Have a great time!

No, many people [and I will say more than half in the one's I have run in] have walked. It's definitely more about being their for support, as some others have said here.

I did the race for the cure for the first time 2 years ago after losing like 30 pounds.  I ran/walked it with a friend.  That is totally normal.  The next year I did it completely without walking!  I just finished the Danskin tri and i walked alot but still finished.  Keep up your workouts to condition yourself.  Make sure to practice running on asphalt if that's where the race will be.  Your shins will thank you.  Good luck!  You can totally do this!  :-)

Well the race that I am doing has a Walking 5k and a running 5k. So I'm just worried anyone who might walk will be in the walking one and I'll be left behind! Thanks everyone though!
