Races in 2009?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi fellow runners!

I'm interested to know what races everyone is running this year.  I'll be doing the Indianapolis Mini Marathon in May, and the Marine Corps Marathon in November if all goes well.

Hi danicahenry,

I am planning to run a half marathon in May and a full marathon in October, the San Francisco Nike Women Marathon, if I get in as they do it by lottery now, if not I'll look for an alternative.  I have been running 5Ks and 10Ks for the last two years.  I'll be done in school at the end of January, I am looking forward to begin my training in February for the half marathon.

Of course, I will continue on with my small races of 5K and 10K all throughout the year as I have a group of people at work that has been running with me on these races and I am the one that organizes all the races that we participate in.

It'll be a great 2009!!

Sounds fantastic, dot-dot-dot!  I can't wait until registration for fall marathons opens up!  It's like Christmas.  I'd love to do a women's marathon someday!

I was supposed to be running Gasparilla 1/2 marathon on March 1, but I may be out of town. If I am here, I will do it. There are some great runs all around the country!

  • The Shamrock Run Virginia Beach, VA
  • Country Music Run Nashville, TN

Does anyone know if every half-marathon is so expensive? I noticed they are all averaging $100. Gaparilla is only $50 (which is reasonable), but the others are much higher. That gets pricey with travel costs. Disney is $150!

It depends on the race and the area.  You get a lot of extras with some races, which may explain why they get so costly.  The Indianapolis Mini is $50.00, and it's a very popular race.

I'm new to the group and fairly new to running.  I am planning on running the following:

  • Jan - 5K Chilly Chase - Langley BC
  • Feb - 5K At the Historic Half - Fort Langley BC
  • Mar - 10K Shamrock Run - Abbotsford BC
  • May - 8K At the BMO Vancouver Marathon - Vancouver BC
  • Jun - 1/2 Marathon at the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon - Seattle WA
  • Oct - 1/2 Maraton at the BMO Okanagon Marathon - Kelowna BC

Good luck to all those running!

Wow, talk about motivation!  Very inspiring!

jsullivan~ if your looking for cheaper races come to the upper mid west.  Full marathons are under $100 and 1/2 marathon's are in the $35-$65 range.  Hotels are pretty cheap out here too.

So far this is my list of runs:

  • April 18- Earth Day 1/2 Marathon St. Cloud, MN
  • May 9- Fargo Marathon Fargo, ND
  • July 4- Firecracker 10k Moorhead, MN
  • Sept -Dick Beardsley 1/2 Marathon Detroit Lakes, MN
  • Sept - Bridge to Bridge Bash 10m Moorhead, MN

Other races I'm debating adding:

  • Jun 20 Grandma's Marathon (tho I'll run the 1/2) Duluth, MN
  • Oct. 4- Twin Cities Marathon (it would be my first year running 2 marathons) Twin Cities, MN
  • who knows what other 5k, 10k and other short runs I might do

I'm so pumped this week is my first week being back in the training season.  I'm so excited and really hoping to shave some significant time off my marathon time.  I'm pretty happy with my half PR, but it would be awesome to break 2:00:00 (pr is 2:06:00), plus I've only been running for a year so I have plenty of time to work on speed.

Hi, I'm new to the group but I wanted to say I'm running the Crescent City Classic 10K in New Orleans, La. It will be my first time. I've been wanting to do it for years so wish me luck!

missabr,

Good for you!!!...let me tell you that you are going to have a blast..it may feel hard to finish it or feels long, but when you cross that finish line, you are going to love it.

I wish you all the best!!!

I plan on running my first race in about 10 years this May.  There are the Cox road races in Providence, RI which are really close to home.  There is a 5k, half marathon and a marathon on the same day.  Right now I am training for the marathon, completed a 14 mile run this week, but if work, kids and/or health become an issue I'll do either the half marathon or 5k, but my heart is set on the marathon.

There are 3 5k's I want to run in the late summer / early fall then maybe train for the Baystate marathon in October.

I'm still considering running a progressive marathon in the springtime.  It's a series of about 6 road races, varying distances but most are 5K-10K, which in total add up to marathon distance 26.2miles.  You get a medal at the end if you complete all of the races.  I'd like to do it but I still have to make sure that either my husband is around or I have someone to watch the kids while I race for all of those weekends.

I'm doing the Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon in Nepal in May.  It starts at Everest Basecamp at 18,000 feet.

Wow embracing50!  What an impressive race!  How do you even go about training for a race at that altitude?  Lots of luck to you :)

I decided against the progressive marathon races I was considering and instead signed up for my first half marathon in June.  I'm also hoping to run my first 10K at the end of April and fit a shorter race in sometime soon.  Hope everyone is doing well with their running.  I know it's been a rough winter so far for a lot of us and that really forces us indoors, limiting our miles, but spring is on it's way (even though the groundhog says six more weeks of winter).

Happy running!

Maureen

I'd be happy with only 6 more weeks of winter, lol.  I live in ND, we got 3 bad blizzards last year in April.  We typically have snow on the ground until mid May.

Brrrr!  I like snow but I think that would be too much for me.  I guess I'll quit complaining about my 6 more weeks...

We've had more snow on Vancouver Island this year then I ever remember and sure does effect my running.  I have taken to running with Yak Trax on to feel safe on the hard packed snow and ice.  I'm not sure about 6 more weeks of it!

I am going to Mexico in mid February to take a Chi Running Clinic.  In the heat and the sunshine.  Is there anyone out there that knows about Chi Running?  I don't much about it and am really curious.

Really it's just a good excuse to go to Mexico. Smile  And thaw out.

You know the winter has been long and you live in a snowy climate when you can go from a tempo run to the "penguins walk" to a tempo run without realizing it and not having to slow down.  Anyone who has done a lot of snow/ice running understands (and is probably laughing right now).

I though of that yesterday when I was on my tempo run and realized I was penguin walking across the icy street.

Committing to the Great Run Ireland 10K in April, then from there we'll see! The last time I did a 10K I ended up doing the Crim 8mi then the Detroit Half Marathon, so God knows where this 10k will take me!!

Hello All! I am new to the group and fresh back into running after a long break. I am pushing hard and am registering for a bunch of races this year to stay on track.

March 14th: Eye of the Dragon 10K (my first 10k!) Eau Gallie, FL

March 28th: Rockledge 5K,  Rockledge, FL

April 25th: Art Festival Flamingo Run 5K,  Downtown Melbourne, FL

May 9th: Run for the Gecko 5K Melbourne, FL

Unfortunately after May, everything pretty much shuts down until Oct/Nov because it is just too hot to run outside, and my training will move indoors to an air conditioned treadmill, but:

There is no listing yet, but I am hoping there will be some 5 & 10K races in October. Usually there are a bunch of breast cancer races then. I will keep my eyes peeled. :)

November 29th: Space Coast Marathon, Melbourne, FL (I will run the half) My big goal this year and my first half marathon!

Hi everyone!   I am in my 9th week of training for the Boston Marathon in April.   I am hoping to finish with a 3:30 so I can maintain my qualification.  The biggest challenge so far has been the weather.  Major cold and rotten sidewalks.
