Hi fellow runners!
I'm interested to know what races everyone is running this year. I'll be doing the Indianapolis Mini Marathon in May, and the Marine Corps Marathon in November if all goes well.
Wow cfelton - I can't believe your race is 12 weeks away and you're already running 17 miles. Holy cow. That made me look twice at my training schedule - I'm also running a marathon in October but I have a few more weeks before the miles really start getting long - not until August, but I'm just now realizing that August is just a couple of weeks away. This training time is going to fly by.
Good luck with your training and your ankle!!
Maureen
Maureen~ with running a spring marathon I didn't really drop my mileage in May/June. My training has me run 2- 20 miles, and 2-22 mile long runs. My goal is to drop another 15 min off my marathon. In May I ran 4:29, I want to run Oct in 4:15. I know I don't "need" to do that many high mileage runs but I feel more confident that I can run my pace when I have run a few extra high mileage long runs.
Good luck with your training, where is your marathon? I'm running Twin Cities Oct 4.
Hello, I'm new to this group and I've been running about 16 months.
This year I've done the island series (Vancouver Island, 8 races different distances),
the St Patties day 5k, the BMO 1/2, The Beer Mile (silver!) and I'm training for a 10k in Sept and the Royal Victoria in Oct.
Next year I'm thinking to get into some sprint Tri's
Happy trails!
Hi everyone,
I am new to this group. I have started running again a few months ago after taking a several year hiatus. I have recently decided to sign up for my first marathon in December and to help build up to this I signed up for a road race series this summer/fall. There are two races a month, the exact same race. July is a 5K, August is 5 miles, Sept is 10K, Oct is 10 mile and Nov is a 1/2 marathon.
Good luck to everyone on all their races and if anyone has any suggestions on preparing for a marathon I am trying to learn all I can:)

Crystal~ my advise on marathon prep is to run smart. You need to build your base mileage, you need to build your endurance, and you need to practice race day things like drinking and fuel. Make sure you are running enough to be confident but don't over run either. I was told once that when training for a marathon you are running on a fine line. If you push too hard you will be injured but if you don't push yourself hard enough you will not be perpared for the race. So, push yourself but listen to your body. Good luck and have fun!!
Hello!
I'm new to this group and so happy to find one for running on here! ;-)
I have done numerous 5ks, 10ks, etc. I'm not an elite runner or anything, just a middle of the packer. I really like to travel for the bigger races.
In the past year or so I have ran the following:
Half marathons: Vegas, Fargo, Nashville, 2 in Denver, Rexburg (Idaho), and Canada
Full Marathons: Walt Disney, FL and Missoula, MT
My upcoming races are:
October - Women's Nike half marathon
November - New York City full marathon
December - Rock and Roll Vegas half marathon
Then, I should take a break. ;-)
Yes, I did get lucky for be chosen from both lotteries.
rockiesgirl,
I am also running the Nike Women's Full Marathon in October. It would be cool to see each other over there. I've been training with Nike Run Club here in San Francisco every Saturday morning and in Danville every Sunday, everyone doing the training are running the Nike Women's or hoping to get in for the remaining 300 slots available for the trainees later on.
I've met some girls at the Nike Run Club that we end up training together during the week since we're kind of city neighbors. We've ran on hills yesterday...oh boy! Last Saturday's run was full of hills..so I thought I better get used to it.
Most likely I will also run the San Jose Rock N Roll half marathon on October 4, which I can consider being part of my training, that's 2 weeks prior to the Nike Women's, and it's all flat.
You are indeed lucky to get selected in the Nike Women's especially for half, because almost everyone I know here who got in are doing full, those who wants to do half did not get selected. So the Nike Run Club will give them one more chance to get in.
What is your goal time for the half and full?
Dot-dot-dot
That would be great to meet other people there, especially b/c I'm training by myself and only bringing my hubby.
You're lucky to be training with a group there. I live in Colorado and in the mountains at an altitude of 9000 feet, so I have to drive to the city 5 days a week (to Denver, 45 mins one way) to run by myself. It's also hard b/c I travel a lot, so my running schedule gets messed up easily. I'm going to Ireland this Friday, so that will be interesting trying to get in a long run there.
That's funny you say you are doing a half marathon 2 weeks prior to the Nike full marathon as part of your training b/c that is how I'm using the Nike half for my full marathon for the New York City on Nov. 1st.
I was told to not run full out for the Nike half to "save my legs" for the full, so now I have no idea what to run for the Nike half to be safe. I'm thinking 1:50-1:55. But I hear the course is hilly, so maybe I better aim for 2:00-2:05 to be safe.
I'm thinking for the full marathon I want to shoot for 4:15-4:20ish. How about you, what is your goal time?
You would be a good person to ask about the course. Define hilly. haha Is there a lot of hills, rolling hills, big steep hills, etc.? Like I said, I didn't even think about that part yet and better start looking for hills to run, which I don't think that will be a problem here in Colorado. HA!
~Leah
Leah~ what year did you run Fargo, just curious because it's my hometown marathon and I ran it the last 2 years. I wish I could do all the traveling you do, but with a husband and 3 young kids I just can't find it in me to travel. Maybe after I qualify for Boston in another 3-5 years, LOL. I have always run a half marathon about 3 weeks before my full, and yeah don't run it full out...I made that mistake and had a nagging injury I had to deal with until I was done with my full.
I can't believe all my fall runs are right around the corner. Still trying to find a local 10k and half for Aug. Have a half Sept 12, Twin cities Oct 4 and then there is a 5k/10k/half the following weekend. Not sure if I want to run it or if I want to volunteer instead.
Hey everybody! I realize it's been a while since anyone has posted but maybe we can get this thread started up again.
I am training for the Marine Corps run in DC in October as well! I'm sticking with the MCM10k though. It will be my first 10k, and I'm hoping to do another one in November - a Turkey Trot before Thanksgiving in my hometown in NC. Then a 5k reindeer fun run in December. I did that one last year and it was a lot of fun! You can bring your doggies and everyone dresses up festively. Reindeer antlers for you and your pets are included in the race packet. :)
I really love running, but I'm not very good at it! I'm slow, but if I train, I know I can do it. I'm just focused on finishing.
My boyfriend ran track in college and he is a natural runner so he pushes me a lot. He is great for motivation, but he is nice enough to slow down and run at my pace when we go together. He will hopefully run both of these 10k's with me if his work schedule allows!
I just joined the group this morning. I'm very excited about my races and hope this group will help me run better!

Hey delaney86, way to go! Those fun runs are great fun, good luck on that 10k too!
Thanks delaney86 for re-opening this thread...after reading your post, I realized I didn't even replied to rockiesgirl question to me :)
Rockiesgirl, our training with Nike Run Club for the Nike Women's Marathon is so much fun because I get to run with bunch of ladies that are in the same pace as mine. We ran 16 miles last Saturday and we'll be running 18 miles this coming Saturday. The course that we go to in the training has a lot of hills, especially the brutal one, very steep and long, they call it lovers' lane, then some rolling hills all throughout the run.
However, since this is my first time running the Nike Women, I talked to some of the girls in my group who ran it in the past said that there are quite a few hills but they are as bad as the lovers' lane and they are not super steep but mostly rolling hills. As long as you train on hills prior to the race day, you'll be okay. The good thing for you is your running the half so you will tackle a fewer hills than the full marathoners. Besides, your time goal is very impressive, you're a lot faster thana me, you'll smoke me to the finish line because I run with the 11:30min/mi group.
I guess they are right by saying "save your legs" for your full, I am considering my San Jose Rock N Roll half marathon as part of my training run, since I'm supposed to run 10 miles that weekend with my training group, I'll just run the half in a race.
Hope your training is going well, it is getting more exciting as we get closer to the race day.
Take care and keep on running!!!

my friend in germantown asked me to run the MC 10k in october with her but man, $40 for a 10k is crazy. Even if you do get a "long sleve mock crew" shirt (which I would never wear a mock crew shirt anyway). Not too far for me either, being in Harrisburg, PA. But a week before there is the Reading Hospital 10k in Reading then a 10miler in Oley, near reading, that I'm going to do instead. Both of those races are $20 each. I have a triathlon coming up in 2 weeks and doing the Philly 1/2 the weekend before Thanksgiving. I've got alot on my plate but I love to enter races and enjoy myself.
Just over 5 weeks to go until the Hartford ING marathon. I'm very psyched for it. I ran 20 miles this past weekend and felt great afterwards. Another 20 miler this weekend, 15 the following weekend and then my last really long run of 22 miles on the 19th or 20th. Looking forward to my taper. Hope all is going well with everyone else's training.
Have a great run!
I'm doing the Royal Victoria Marathon on October 11, just 38 days! That must be the same weekend ast the Hartford Ing. I am doing a 34km (just over 21 miles) this weekend. A 13 miler next weekend and then a 24 on the 19th. It is sneaking up fast. Good luck with your training. I feel like I am little slower then I wanted to be, but otherwise feel good.
Good luck!
The Hartford Marathon is the 10th - so I guess it's 37 days away - so close, can hardly believe. I feel way slower than I thought I would be. I'm hoping to finish in about 4 1/2 hours but really I'll just be happy to finish. I'm hoping I really do get stronger during my taper and surprise myself on race day. We'll see. Lots of luck to you too!
I just signed up for my next 5K. Turkey Trot trail run on Thanksgiving morning. I am so excited to run in a new place.
I'm doing a Turkey Trot too! Only mine is the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Winner gets a real turkey. Ha! I wish it were on Thanksgiving morning though, to burn some of the calories I'll be packing on the afternoon.
