I bought a bag of these solely because they were, well, pretty. And on sale.

But what else can I do with these things aside from topping a salad? I've never cooked with them before so I'm not sure what other flavors would compliment them or if they'd turn out too pungent...

I'm thinking stir-fry maybe? Or can they go with something like roasted potatoes/veggies? What would you season them with?

Thanks :)

Ok this isn't 100% healthy due to the sodium content and the use of artificial sweetners, but it is good...To make them into a snack, I cut small slits (not all the way through) in the radishes, such that thier natural juices can be expelled. Put them in a mason jar with equal parts salt and splenda. For a large Mason jar I probably use about 2 tablespooons of each. Let them sit in the fridge overnight and the radish juice mixes with the salt and splenda to make a crunchy sweet and salty bite without too many calories.

I love radishes...never heard of cooking them though.

I like them in a green salad, or on their own or with some veggie dip, or in this really yummy Radish and Quinoa Salad: slice radishes, cucumbers, chopped red onions and tomato, quinoa cooked and chilled, goat cheese, capers, and parsley with a vinaigrette of dijon mustard, olive oil, and red wine vinegar. Yum.

I just munch on them. :)

You can cook them like you would baby turnips by braising.  Brown them in a saute pan until golden.  Add broth, cover and cook until just tender but still a little crisp.  Let the liquid reduce to make a sauce.  I've had them this French way with the well washed radish tops added right at the end and cooked just to wilt.  It's very good.

I like them best raw as a munchy snack.

Love them dipped in hummus!

Thanks for all the tips! I ended up giving them a quick saute in some sesame oil then popped them in the oven with some green onions and a little soy sauce. It was actually pretty good... I had them with green beans but I bet they'd be even better over fried rice.

The quinoa salad sounds fantastic! And yeah, they're great raw too. Like spicy little potato chips :)

Id like to try this:

I've never thought of cooking radish.  I've always eaten it raw, either dipped in something or in a salad.  Interesting.

Wow that looks so good! I never thought of cooking it either but I think a few too many episodes of Iron Chef got me wondering, since they tend to use Daikon a lot. I guess it's supposed to be good in soups and simmered stuff like clairelaine suggested. It definitely adds a nice crunch.

I usually cut them in quarters, saute in a small amount of peanut oil (or other oil that can take high heat) and lightly sprinkle them with a bit of sugar or soy sauce or both.  They make a very pretty vege side dish (especially good with beef) and cooking takes all the bite out of them.
