Hello, all!

I've been trying to expand my vegetable repertoire to include more of the local stuff (cheaper than the WH Market), and I picked up a pound of radishes for only 99 cents today.

I remember my grandfather eating them sliced, raw with a little salt and they aren't that bad (a little...spicy maybe?), but I don't know what to do with them (apparently a pound of radishes is ALOT).

Any suggestions would be great! I tried a few random, weird dishes like sauteing them in flour, olive oil and a little soy milk, and using them to replace water chestnuts but I'm feeling timid.

I use them in my fresh salsa.  Tomatoes, sweet pepper, jalepeno, cucumber, red onion and radishes.  Good!

That's an excellent idea, especially with their crunch and slight peppery flavour. :) Thanks!

Here are a few recipes.

They can be cooked and served as you would turnips.  Braising is good - saute them with a little onion and garlic until lightly browned, then add broth, cover and simmer slowly until tender.  Take the lid off and allow the liquid to cook off before serving.

My most common use for them is in salads - raw, cut up in a garden salad.  You could probably use them for stir fries, too.

I love my radishes sliced and grilled, you could also make baked radish chips. They also complement slightly sweet/tangy dips and sauces (like mustard) nicely.

I slice them up thin and add them to salads.
