Ran in my first 5k today!
This would have been the last day of couch-to-5k for me, so I decided that a REAL 5k would be a good way to end it!
I am proud of myself for:
-Not walking
-Not getting lapped (it was 2 laps and a lot of people got lapped by the elite runners)
-Sprinting at the end
I finished in 30:18, which is about what I hoped. Hey, any time's a personal best the first time you do it! Next time, I'll aim for under 30!
YAY!
Congratulations!
There are not very many things so exciting as completing your first race -- what a milestone!
Congratulations! A 5k is in my opinion by far the most enjoyable distance you can race. Again, way to go!
That is so awesome. Congratulations. I'm envious!!
yay emily!! that's awesome!
that is super! congrats! :D
great --i hope it was a cool race tee!
Great! Impressive time for a first. Mine was 37:31! Am thinking of training for a 10k now. Keep it up and Congratulations!
Well, you were certainly in the zone! I've run about 20 5K's now and haven't done better than 34 minutes. Good Job!
That's so exciting! Great job! You'll be my inspiration. I start week 5 tomorrow and I'm a bit intimidated by the 20 min run for the first time. I'll be thinking of you, emilyd id it! ![]()
Excellent job! Keep up the hard work.

Yay! Yes, the first 20 minute run is challenging, but totally worth it. I was really scared of it, but I felt so strong and accomplished once I finished. It's all downhill from there- none of the long runs seem bad once you have that first one out of the way.
Great job! I know the feeling! I finished my second 5K yesterday and I completed couch to 5K in November. It feels great to not walk and keep going - even if it's slow going. Now you have to sign up for another and beat your time! Keep going!![]()
Good for you! That's really fantastic...
I'm signed up for my first one January 18th. Any advice? LOL!
I sense of new runner addicts emerging on this thread!! I ran my first 5k about 6 months ago after 6 months of new running (tried couch-to-5k and gave it up for my own "personal plan"). I ran it in 29:20 and I remember how amazing that feeling was to this day.
6 months later, I now run 5k's in about 24 minutes and am training for my first FULL marathon in april!!!! It becomes such a thrill to beat YOURSELF, running is amazing for the mind and body.
Congratulations Emily and all of you!!! Keep up the good work
Congrats!

Emilyd, healthmd id it! I can't believe I ran 20 min straight on the treadmill. I know 5mph is not that fast but I hung in there. I was feeling defeated even before I started it! Like I was never going to make it, but I thought of you running the 5K. So I set mini goals, I'll try for 10min, then I thought I could go up to 12 min, then I decided for 15 min and finally I gave a push for the 20 min. My face was so red, but I did it. It does feel good. Don't even know what's up in store for week 6 of C25K but I'll give my best. Hope it's really downhill, LOL Thanks for the inspiration emilyd!
