Congratulations! So when are you going to sign up for a 5k? Bring us back a prize :)

My 5K is on sept 20th.  I hope to build my miles up to 4 miles 3x a week and then work on speed.

My next goal after my 5K is to beat my time and work on a 10K

 Sounds great :)

That's amazing! I'm trying to improve my running too! How did you get there?

Congrats, that's awesome!

I just started running again and you're where I'd like to be sometime in the next few months.  How long did it take you to work up to that distance?

congrats!! stick to it. a few months ago i was completely scared of doing a 10k... now im up to running 5miles 2x a week and do 2-3 miles the other day... i've gained speed and endurance and its amazing what consistency and intervals can do!!!

Congrats-

I use to run a lot-about 10 years ago....god I could run miles at a time..well fast forward and I can't even run a 1/2 mile..when someone starts out how many times a week should I attempt? Any advice would be great...

Congrats again!

Great job! I am a newbie to running / jogging I guess I should really say. :) I am in a 5k on the 16th. I can jog 2.5 miles on a treadmill like it is nothing but outside I can barely get 2 without feeling like I am going to die! I am so proud of you! You should be so excited!

d-a: consider trying the Couch to 5k Program if you are looking for someplace to begin.  it's a beginners running program that consists of 3 runs (jogs/walks) per week over the course of 9 weeks to take you from the couch to running a 5k (hence the name!).  the website link for the program is:

c25k

trust me, if someone as overweight and out of shape as I am can keep up with this program (I'm on week 2, day 1), anyone can!

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?

In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
