Ran in place for 2 hours yesterday. Did it help?
I know this is gonna sound silly but I'm just starting to get into exercise. I lost 22 pounds with little to no exercise because I just ate small portions and now I am trying to get into exercising at least tiwce a week. I ate a pretty high calorie day wednesday (don't know how much) and I ate about 1500 yesterday.
I'm 22 years old and 5'4". I'm trying to lose about 5 more pounds. I was 123 pounds Monday and then I got on the scale yesterday and I was freakin 126 pounds. What's up with that?
So I ran in place for 2 hours straight last night to try to burn off extra calories. Do you guys think that at least helped with me going over yesterday? I am kinda clueless about how much exercise I need verses how many calories I need to consume since I usually just eat 1200 a day.
One day will not replace a life time, please only use the scale once a week (Say Monday morning) your body changes from day to day it will drive you crazy.
As for the 2 hours running in place you did burn something, I like walking myself.
Hey! While one would be tempted to think that any exercise is better than no exercise, I would strongly advise you to take up an activity that is fun. I mean, surely you can think of something more enjoyable to invest two hours of your time in? Running in place for such a long time sounds more like a punishment for our overeating.. something like "I have to do something right now to compensate, what readily available options do I have?". This is hardly very sustainable and efficient in the long run, and you might find it difficult to stay motivated.
Take up some sport as a hobby, take a walk or run outside, get a bike, buy some exercise equipment, subscribe to a gym or some sort of fun class like martial arts, some form of aerobics, dancing etc. There should be many things you can happily see yourself doing regularly over running in place. Good luck!

Oh I guess I failed to mention that I like it that way. I watched two hour long shows on my DVR while doing it. I ran in place for the show part and I hula hooped during the commercials. I like it that way cause I get to watch my shows but I'm not just sitting on my butt while watching. It's fun for me. The first hour was pretty hard but the second hour was rather easy. I know it sounds rather dorky but I don't have a exercise bike or anything so that is what works for me.

Thanks! yeah I knew I shouldn't have weighed myself yesterday. I don't know why I did. I'm trying to do it once a week! I even hide my scale sometimes lol.
I wouldn't run in place for that long, it's hard on the knees. MUCH better to run and move somewhere too...
You might want to mix it up while watching your shows.
I really messed up my knees and ankles by running in place with the Wii Fit. If you must do it, make sure not to run on just your toes. Try to plant the whole foot on the ground - almost like marching in place.
Use caution! Exercising that long (unless training for a marathon) is not good for you and can actually be considered "exercise bulimia". Lifting weights will firm you up and give everything a more sleek look. Do 60 minutes of cardio a day max. You might gain just a little bit of weight in the beginning or your weight will stay the same but after 2 months of doing it, you will shrink. There is also no such thing as "spot reduction". You must take the fat off by losing some weight while working the muscles through weight lifting in order for a specific part of the body to look better. Also, your period can put 3-4 lbs on you temporarily FYI. Winter clothing also weights a ton, weigh in your birthday suit in the am before eating.

Thanks! that's pretty much what I did. I also did some hula hooping for a little break during the commercials.

Yeah I am on my period so I was hoping that had something to do with the sudden gain. I'll try to reduce my exercise to one hour. I guess I just freaked out and went a little exercise nutty yesterday lol. And yes I'm aware I have to do weight lifting and all that to tone different areas, but right now I really just want a fun way to burn some calories. there isn't really any part of my body I need to fix I'm losing weight in all areas and I feel like I look good. I'm just scared of gaining and being overweight again.
Oh, sorry for being rather quick to judge. If you did it while watching TV I can see how it was enjoyable. :) And I know this is easier said than done, but don`t fret so much about gaining back all the weight. It`s not as easy as it seems to go back to being overweight when you have all this new knowledge of health and nutrition! This is not to say you should let yourself go, of course, keep the fears to a constructive level and you`ll be just fine with your new hot smokin` bod.
wow, even watching tv, I dont think i could do two hours. I personally though, think its a great idea if your going to be watching tv to multi task like that. Why not get in some cardio at the same time! I used to do a far amount of indoor cardio tapes when i was younger and found wearing shoes really helped my feet hurt a lot less when not wearing them. To mix it up - have you considering buying a step, like they use for step aerobics? This would be less impact then running in place and there's all sorts of variation then step up step down - v step, grape vine, up and over etc. Another thing I LOVED was my mini trampoline. Watching tv and jumping on that was awesome. I think I bought that at Walmart for $30-40. The step wouldn't be more then that either.
1200 cals is not enough. I use http://www.phord.com/cc/ and your BMR is 1310, RMR 1574. So don't go under 1310 and I personally believe RMR is the better number to go by and wouldn't eat under 1574. Grats on the weight loss so far! i think 123 at your weight is fine and don't need to lose more :)
