i ran, for two miles... straight!!! :D
i posted this in the 20somethings group forum, but i thought i'd share it with the rest of the cc'ers mainly because i'm super excited, lol!
--------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- ---------
soo, i decided to go for a run yesterday (on the treadmill, lol - it was getting dark and i don't like to be out walking/running the streets alone "/) and my goal was to run at least as much as i had ran last week (i typically run once or twice a week - the rest of my exercise comes from playing volleyball and/or soccer and/or bike riding with my fiance, but he's out of town :( ). anyway, like i said, my goal was to go for at least 1.5 miles, which is what i did last week, without stopping. so i was running along, listening to my ipod and watching a basketball game, not really paying much attention to the readings on the treadmill. every once in a while (like after a song or two had passed), i'd look down just to see my progress. once i got to the 1.5 mile mark, i thought to myself "hmm, let's see if i can go for 1.75 miles! another minute or two isn't going to kill me. and if i get tired, i'll just stop. i've already met my goal of 1.5 anyway." soo, i turned my attention back to the basketball game and when i looked down again, i was at 1.8 miles!! so i thought to myself again, "go for 2 miles!!!" it was like i got this burst of energy and was so pumped that i got past 1.75 without dieing (like i had envisioned it in my head, lol) that the last .2 miles was a breeze (ok, maybe not so much - but it wasn't as difficult as i thought it was going to be). i hit the two miles and felt soooo good about myself - it was great!!
just thought i'd share my accomplishment with ya'll! :) feel free to share yours with me too!! i'd love to hear some of ya'lls accomplishments - perhaps posting them all in one place will help to motivate us all when we're feeling a little frustrated and ready to throw in the towel. they'll serve as reminders that we all have what it takes to reach our goals inside of us and that when we feel like giving up, we just have to push a little harder.
btw, i know to some people two miles may be nothing - but for somebody who used to get winded after walking for 1/2 mile, running 2 miles is pretty darn good. :)
now c'mon, tell me about your accomplishments - i wanna hear 'em!!! :D
Congradulations on your success! That is VERY exciting and you should be proud! I can't even run 1 mile without stopping to breath and walk for a minute! Props to you!!! Keep up the good work...before you know it, you'll be running 4 miles without a prob ;) Thanks for sharing with us!
lol, thanks! :D
my goal is to be able to run a 5k (3.1 miles). i'm just about 2/3 of the way there... that's more than half way, haha!!
Congrats! Holy Moly welcome to running! When I started I could waaaaaay less than you, and now I think I'm kind of getting somewhere. Last week I did six and a half miles at 6.6 mph (about a 9 min/mile pace). My normal runs now are at 7.1-7.5 mph for 3-4 miles. I'm hooked on running and I do it everyday. I'm getting faster and able to go further all the time. You're so hooked, I can tell. It gets more and more fun too. Its one of my favorate things now.
That's awesome.....everyone starts at the beginning, we all had to learn to walk, and we need to learn how to run. Go ahead and gloat and enjoy that accomplishment, you are going to need to re-live that feeling when you are at mile 2.9 of that first 5k. Keep it up, now that you have the running itch you will just keep going. I have a running addiction.....let me tell you my story, LOL.
If 18 months ago you would have told me I was going to be running marathons and triathlons I would have told you, you were nuts and that I couldn't run 1/2 a block. But last year I ran 2 half marathons and 1 full marathon. This year I plan to run 2 full marathins, 2 half marathons, and hopefully 2 sprint triathlons. Don't see my self breaking into ultra's or anything but you never know, I'm not going to say it won't happen, just not in the next 6 months.
That's great! You should be so proud! 2 miles is nothing to sneeze at and I'm sure you'll find yourself running longer and longer distances! Here's my story:
I used to run in high school, and I always enjoyed it, but I stopped after graduation and took about a 10 year break....I decided that in 2009 I would start running again and run in my first 5K before my 30th birthday this spring. I've been running for two months now, and I'm getting to the point where I can just about run three miles without keeling over on the street - my first 5K is March 21!! I looked at the times from some of the 5Ks that have been run in my area recently and now I'm a little nervous that I'll be finishing dead last LOL - at least I'll finish though! It's better to have my name last on the time sheet than not on there at all, right? Right?! ;)
Something that keeps me motivated is a chart that I keep on the fridge with every day listed and what I should be running for that day. After I run, I get my special pink marker and cross through the day! (It's really easy to cross through Fridays; my rest day LOL!) It keeps me excited when I see a full month crossed out!
Keep it up and let us know how you're doing!!
yikes, i hadn't checked back with this poll is a couple days - i didn't realize people were still posting to it.
anyway, thanks so much for the encouragement! it totally makes me feel that much better for running my two miles, lol. :) i used to run a lot as far back as maybe like two years ago, but i can never stick to a routine. :( i, like most of you, get so addicted to it that i eventually end up running like every day! and after a few weeks of that, my knees can't take it anymore. for only being 22, i have some pretty bad knees :(. so then i'd usually just stop to give my legs time to heal, and then i'd never start up again. it's pretty much a vicious cycle that i go through every few months. soo, now i've decided that i am going to stick to running only once, sometimes twice a week, and never on back-to-back days. i'll get the rest of my exercise from bike riding, walking, and playing volleyball/soccer throughout the week. this way, i'll still remain active ~4 days out of the week, but i'll also give my knees a break and work my legs out in different ways. hopefully this plan will help me stick to running for more than just a couple months. :)
i will definitely keep ya'll posted on my progress!!
UPDATE: I went for a run yesterday, and was able to do 2.25 miles straight without stopping!! :D At this rate, I should be able to hit my 3.1 miles in about a month or so. Wish me luck!!! :)
