Random period?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey,

So I'm 20 years old in a long term monogynous relationship, and I've been on the pill for about 3 years. Lately I have been taking my pill continuously for the past 6 months or so (skipping my sugar pills so that I will not have a period) because my doctor said it would help with my endometriosis. My last cycle was about 2 months ago (I try to have one every 4 months). I am very good about taking my pill at the same time, but about a week ago I fell asleep early and forgot to take it, but took it early the next morning (so about 12 hours late). I didn't have sex either of those days, but I did the next day (unprotected). Yesterday I randomly started my period. I had some mild cramping but nothing like I usually do. My question is: do you think this may be from missing my pill those 12 hours or so? Or is my body just having a period because I haven't had one in awhile? Anyone have any similar experiences? Thanks so much!

I would give ur dr a call just in case, but my guess is its "break through bleeding". And it has almost nothing to do with your one late pill.  Supposedly it can happen on any of these pills that you take in long cycled skipping Ur periods.  Especially if you just started not taking the sugar pills recently.

My doc put me on 3 different birth control pills in a 6 month timeframe because I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and insulin resistance. I had a period (or breakthrough bleeding) for 3 months. It may be different for you, but my doc told me that the longer you go skipping the inert pills, the more chance you will have of mid-cycle bleeding.

Thanks so much for your replies! I think it's just normal break through bleeding and I was worried about nothing :)
