you know how theres something called a "thin crust" pizza? so it sounds like its all in the crust, but the the cheese looks the fattist....

I'm thinking the cheese is probably the most calories as well. Also, depending on the quality of the pizza place, the calories change. A lot of delivery pizza places tend to use fillers and skimp on their cheese, because mozzarella cheese can be very expensive. So in the higher end pizzerias, your probably getting more calories from the cheese.
but........ that ounce thing confuzes me XD. I'm not good with measure ments...
so lets say on a dominos' pizza (on the crust now, btw), a large pizza would have a ______ total amount of calories vs. _______ amount of total calories of cheese.... which ____- is greater?
what are fillers?...........

While cheese is more calorie-dense than bread, the bread is usually so thick it is way more, volume-wise, than the cheese. So, um, both. Also the fatty meats are killer. If you order a meatless thin-crust with half the cheese, you are really saving on cals, fat, and carbs, but many people have said that they prefer to go whole-hog once in a while rather than do a "skinny" version more often (I always jump into pizza threads, I think I am pizza-obsessed). I personally make my pizza at home and that way i control what's in it - thin crust, use low-fat cheese and soy pepperoni etc.
The crust has the most amount of calories, even if it is thin crust. You can even see this by looking at the Domino's nutrition facts on their website. It gives you the calorie count for 1/8 of a pizza for each type of crust depending on the size and how many calories in the cheese for each type as well.
Crust (1 slice of a 12 inch pie):
Classic Hand-Tossed - 120 calories
Crunchy Thin Crust - 80 calories
Ultimate Deep Dish - 160 calories
Cheese:
Classic Hand-Tossed - 45 calories
Crunchy Thin Crust - 45 calories
Ultimate Deep Dish - 60 calories
I would assume that ratios are similar for other types of pizza as well.
while we're on the topic, i was wondering... does anyone know WHY sbarro pizza calories are so much insanely higher than all other pizza chains? they have a lot of slices listed as 500+ calories PER SLICE! that's insanity! i'm sorry, i just find that crazy. are they dipping the slices in lard or something??
I made a homemade bbq chicken pizza the othe day, I ate half the pizza for only about 400 cals!
I used a bomboli whole wheat pizza crust, bbq sauce, low fat mozzarella and added some chicken breast strips. I didn't put a huge amount of cheese on it and just enought bbq sauce (you could use tomato sauce too) to spread thinly on the crust. Put it in the oven and devoured half of it! so good!
Um, No, its just their pizza slices are ridiculously HUGE. You could easily cut one in half and still have a normal sized slice. Once you do that, 500+ per "two" slices is not nearly as high

The reason this is true is because cheese is one of the more expensive ingredients so they control it more. They use the same measurement of cheese on thin and thick crusts. It does go up a little for deep dish.
I almost never get meat on my pizzas anymore. If I get thin crust with a variety of veggies my pizza fix is satisified and I haven't done much damage. I can enjoy pizza more often this way.
Has anyone tried the new Donatos multi-grain crusts? I might do that tonight.
I think it's the cheese but I'm one of those "whole-hog" pizza people and eat the original deal-with sausage. To help with my portions I order a side of sauce and dip my squares into the sauce. It makes me eat it slower and gets me fuller. The sauce is definitely the least caloric on a regular cheese and meat pizza.
i actually hadn't ever gotten a slice of sbarro's. just looked up the nutrition out of curiosity because there was one on my campus. but.. good to know!
you could just order multigrain thin-crust with half the cheese.
It depends on what you order. Like, if you get EXTRA cheese like my family, then the cals come definately from the cheese. But if not, I'd say it's about 50/50.
Something to remember - many of the chain restaurants making pizzas will drop a ladle full of oil (and a big one!) into the pan before they put the dough on it. This can be responsible for those uber high calorie pizzas , compared to other pizzas that are lower in calories per slice.
The only way to know if your fave pizza joint does this? Ask. I do. I order a plan cheese pizza from places that don't bomb the pan with oil prior to baking and I add my own basil and tomatoes at home. It's delish and a not-terribly-guilty way to enjoy my favorite treat.
