Rapid weight loss

Quote  |  Reply

I'm 25, 5'11 and now 220 lbs. My weight has been fluctuating all my life (reached an embarressing 275 lbs a few years ago while i was living on the notriously "healthy" diet of fast-crap.

Anyways, almost every summer, I make it a priority to lose weight (not sure why I wait until the summer). This summer I've set out both a trainning and diet plan to ensure major weight loss (my goal is to reach 195 lbs) As last year I was working out like crazy at the gym, but my eating habits were still in the gutter, nonetheless, I still managed to lose a good 20 lbs and kept em off.

I have started tracking my measurements (wasteline and chest area) along with weight on a daily basis eversince I started with CC. So far, it has only been 8 days and and I have already lost 5 KGs ~11 lbs.

My body burns 2200/day, but everyday, my total caloric consumption is not exceeding 1600 - 1800 and I walk back home from work on a daily basis which takes me about 30 minutes. Additionally, I do total of 20 minutes of ab and low-weight high-rep weight lifting along with an hour of uphill interval jogging (6.4 KMph incline 9).

Yesterday my weight was 102 KG, today i weighed it during the same time as always (when i first get up and before having breakfast) and it was 100 KG. Is this rapid weight loss normal? 4.5 lb in one day? Should I be aware of anything? I do feel energized all the time and I don't feel like I am starving myself.

Your advice is greatly appreciated!

You can't lose that much in one day, do the math. It's water.

Yea I never thought it was entirely fat as a pound of fat is 3500 calories / correct me if im wrong. Anyhow, I know I did not dehydrate myself yesterday and am constantly drinking lots of water (2 liters/day)

crazy as it sounds drinking a lot of water helps you loose water weight. You hold onto water because you don't consume enough water. By drinking plenty of water your body realizes it dosn't need to store it anymore and gets rid of it. If you stop drinking enough water you'll gain all the water weight right back as your body will start holding onto it again.

It's normal to lose more weight at the beginning of a diet, partly because you're losing some retained water. It sounds like your deficit isn't too big so I'd keep tracking your weight loss. If it doesn't slow down to a more reasonable rate of 1-2 pounds per week, you might need to up your calories a bit, but at this point I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think you losing too fast yet. Now if you lost 50 pounds in one month and didn't have bypass surgery then you would have a problem.

When I started on my weight lost journey on May 1st, 2009 I was also at 220 with a height of 5'10". first month I dropped 20 pounds (I thought it was a bit much) but every month since I have been losing a consistant 10 pounds a month.

Thank you all for your advice. I appreciate it.

Interesting information you mentioned there majintrunks. I'll def keep my water intake to no less than 2 liters/day.

Cheers,

Ihab
