Rash on face food allergy?
Hello All! I have been on my new diet and lifestyle for 1 month and 15 days....just in the past week, I have been eating a tremendous amount of fiber. The majority of my fiber intake comes from Fiber One in the morning. Just in the past week I have developed this strange rash on my face....it seems to have dried out and does not really itch, but is very strange. I have never seen or had anything like this before....I of course tired to go on-line and find a reason....could it be a wheat allergy? Anyone know?
the raisin bran clusters flavor contains nuts (almond pieces) so it could be a nut allergy
I agree that it's probably a nut sensitivity.
I don't know....since I am 31 and have never been sensitive to nuts...? It is really bizarre. I need to see my doctor I guess and then get a referral to a dermatologist!!! DARN HMO's takes forever to get to where you really need to go!
Cut out the raisin bran for a week and see if that helps.
If it doesn't try eliminating another food.
Hehehe, if your rash begins showing up on your neck and chest or anywhere else on your trunk, you should see a doctor immediately....I had the same problem and it turned out to be a virus similar to Rubella. It didn't itch or anything, I just had pink spots that showed up =) It could even be due to a different detergent or other product that you're using....It's not always all about food~
i agree, doc. there are lots of potential causes that have nothing to do with food. it could be an autoimmune problem. you need to see your doctor.
Thank you everyone....I am going to schedule an appointment first thing in the morning. I stopped eating Fiber One this weekend....and also stopped using the new fabric softener I bought last weekend.
Errg. I just hate not knowing what is happening.
Thanks for all the help!!!
I had a huge reaction to detergent, rashes all over my neck, chin, chest AHHHH! It was from the uniforms I had to wear at work, this was in my twenties. Also, I once had a big 2" dry patch of red, flaky skin on my thigh and I pointed it out o my gyno and he said it was just a red flaky patch of skin, didn't take it too seriously. And sure enough, it just went away. Also, I used to have bouts of ringworm...again, just bouts of dry red flaky skin. And come to think of it, I have not had a bout in over a year, I forgot I used to get that. Shingles is about the worse thing I can think of and you are not getting it on your abdomen or chest area, so this is probably minor. Your doctor will be able to adequately diagnose. may be due to changes in diet and you've made some sudden changes!
Now that you mention that you bought new fabric softener, I think that would be the culprit. I can't use laundry detergent that contains febreze because it makes me itch!
You can develop food allergies at any age, so if you think it might be something you're eating see your doctor ASAP. A friend of mine developed peanut allergies when she was in her 20's and didn't find out what was causing her rashes until months later when she ate some peanuts and went into shock. Luckily she got to the hospital in time, but better safe than sorry.
I'm "allergic" to fabric softener. It makes me itch. If I sleep on sheets, it makes my eyes itch and my nose run. I use fragrance free detergent - usually the arm & hammer brand.
Where on your face is the rash? Have you been using any new face products, toothpastes, hair products etc?
Well it has gone away on it own! I am still unsure of the culprit!
I used Aveeno Daily Facial Cleansers...that had salicylic acid....I think that might have been it, but the rash on my chest (only the left side small patch on my breast) I still see where it was....I got totally freaked out when I saw on the news that Bacteria Meningitis cause a pin pricked rash!!!!! That was scary.
I stopped eating Fiber One, but I think I will start that again...cause I ate Kashi go lean and it basically the same thing....
I stopped the fabric softener that I bought new....Snuggle some yellow bottle.
I stopped of course the Aveeno Daily Cleansers....
SO WHO knows. I never could go to the doctor last week....I had a SUPER BUSY week at work there was absolutely NO time, but I am planning on changing doctors.
BLSAAAAAAA! Thanks everyone!
Haha. I definitely suspect it was the Salicylic acid in your facial cleanser....dry &/or red skin is a common side effect as it's sloughing off your dead skin cells pretty fast.
Heh. I was going to point at the fabric softener as the culprit. :)
Hey, I have the SAME THING!! I'm googling around right now for it b/c it's super itchy again.
I also started the workout/diet regime a little while ago... and it coincided with the start of the rash as well. I wasn't sure if it was the energy pills I started taking, or the protein powder (I tried a different brand than I'm used to), or a new kind of fruit, or soy milk, or even if it was some allergic reaction to the sun (I laid out more this summer than I had ever before)... I never thought of the cereal... I eat Fibre One AND All Bran AND oats combined every day.
Come to think of it, I've also recently started drinking soy milk. THAT might be it. Do you use that on your cereal?
