Would you rather?

I've been reading a few different topics/forums about body image and proportion. We are all shaped differently and most of us are unhappy with the way we look. I know that I am now 189 lbs but I'm carrying my weight quite well. I have a lot of muscle and definition, but I do have larger hips/thighs than my waist. When I lose weight, the first thing that looks better are my abs/stomach. I have a flat stomach and I love it, but it takes forever for me to get down another size in jeans. Which is really frustrating.

So my question to you, which would you rather have? I know that most people who have it one way, would want it the other. So in my opinion, I'm glad for the flat stomach, but REALLY wish I could go down a size or 2 in jeans a lot sooner.

Please weigh in on your opinions!

I can fit into a size 8 jeans at 166 pounds and I'm proud of that, but I have never had a flat stomach and I would rather have a flat stomach and bigger hips than what I do have.

That said, I don't hate my body, saggy boobs, stretched-out skin, stretchmarks and all. It gets me around, keeps me alive, offers me pleasure and support and comfort, exists to help me laugh, love, and hug my son. It's not perfect, but neither am I, and it's all mine as nothing else in this world is.

I'm 5'2" and weigh 110.  I hate my thighs, my stomach and my arms.  I want more toned triceps and my lower abs have a little fat that I hate.  And I wish my thighs were more toned and smaller.

That is a great response! I love your attitude! I feel the same. We may have things we don't like, but I'm not going to obsess about them. I'm alive and healthy and that's what matters! :)

It's not exactly the same, as I've NEVER had a flat stomach (even as a size 4!), but I've always been curvey.

So I would rather be curvy and feminane than where a smaller size. My goal is to where a size 7/8/9 (anything under a double digit), but if that means losing my femininity, I'll wear a size 10 or 12 instead.

I definitely agree with you mperic81!!  I have the small hips, butt and nice legs, but a nasty gut that will not go away!!  I am chalking that up to having a baby (10 months ago, lol).  No, I've never had a flat tummy :(  But as I said, I agree with you about not losing your femininity.  I also thought that I wanted to be that super skinny, petite woman.  But the more I think about it, I kind of like my curves!  Apparently so does my husband.  I started really losing weight and when we were intimate one time (sorry TMI!), he said, "I got nothing to grab onto anymore".  In a way that made me feel great,  but then it didn't!  My goal is to lost/tone up, but still keep the curves :)  .....which means alot of exercise!!

I've lost about 30 pounds in the past year going from a size 10 to a size 4/6. But I've kept somewhat of a slight belly pudge. Honestly I would rather have a flat stomach and no spare tire than be the small size I am now with no butt or boobs. Oh well, I should just love the body I have now though.

i'm down almost 30 pounds, too, from a tight size 12 to a very comfortable 8.  from the front, i look quite slim, but from the side, it's horrifying.  i have a gigantic uterus, hence a gigantic belly.  i think i'm as deep as i am wide!  so--yeah--a flat belly would be lovely at this point (and hopefully will be, in 12 days, after i have my hysterectomy!).

Oh my, pgeorgian.  I hope everything goes okay.

thanks, agana!  i'm actually looking forward to it :)

I seem to be the opposite of most people here. I have a flat tummy, but only because I put weight on in my bum and thighs! Oh what I would give for the legs I had two years ago...

id rather a flat tummy. even when its bigger i like my butt hahaha.

i would kill to have a flat stomach again. it is so uncomfortable sitting down when i can feel my body spilling over the top of my pants!

the only good thing about this weight gain is my boobs. i have boobs! (lol) but yeah, i'll trade the boobs for my old flat stomach any day. ;)

I think it's a case of most people wanting what they don't have.  Me, I want a flat stomach.

Annagirl, you are too stinkin cute!!  I'm glad you posted thisSealed

I am voting for a flatter stomach as well.  I don't know if that is possible as I've had 2 c-sections, so I would like to know from other women if they have EVER been able to get back the 6 pack that was there prior to children AFTER having c-sections.

I love the fact that I'm in a comfortable size 10 from a tight 12, and I know that with the motivation you have inspired us girls with, that will go down to an 8 soon!  Like you said, inches are truly what make the difference right now.

Thank you dear for a great post and I look forward to seeing what the other responses are.Wink

I've always had bigger hips and thighs, but that's offset by my bigger chest and smaller waist, so it does give me a nice hourglass shape (when I'm actually at a decent weight).  I would much rather have a flatter stomach because otherwise I would look out of proportion.

I'm a pear-shaped girl...my main problem areas are my thighs (especially the inner thighs), I don't mind my hips because they make my waist appear smaller...I have a slight muffin top going on too...but it is starting to disappear (yay!!) and I don't bulge out at the sides anymore....so yeah, it's definately the thighs now...errgh...not worried about my boobs getting smaller, I just want my thighs to get slimmer, leaner and tighter, and I want more defined shoulders (gotta build some muscle there). Overall, I'm quite proportionate and lose fat pretty evenly everywhere, including the boobs unfortunately (nevermind the flabby thighs), but I'd love to be able to lose 1-2 dress sizes.

When I lose weight, my waist, belly and boobs (and upper body in general) are also always the first to go, hips somewhere in between, and thighs last.
