i want to thank whoever it was that posted about their grams allowance each day for each component of their diet. there are so many posts now, it's getting really hard to find one! (this is great!!)
i figured out my 1600 cals diet in terms of carbs (50%) fats (25%) and protein (25%). and now after i look at my analysis, i know how many grams of each i have left to eat during the day.
mine works out to 200 gm carbs, 44 gm fats, 100 gms protein. i had (hodgson's buttermilk flaxseed/soy) pancakes for breakfast this morning, so already have over 70 gm of carbs, and i know i have to go easy on carbs the rest of the day. but no more guessing about what will make my ratio work.
i tried really hard to get to the 40-30-30 ratio, but just couldn't do it, so i settled on 50-25-25, and that seems to be working. 15 down 7 to go!! it will be 11 weeks tomorrow!

congrats elin! I find it hard to do the 40/30/30 too, so I'm doing the 50/25/25 as well. Haven't figured it out in grams yet, but since you're on the same calorie limit I am I guess I don't have to! Thanks, and have an awesome weekend!
lol-mine is usually something like 60/25/15. I eat alot of fruits and veggies though, so I don't really sweat my carbs. if it was all breads, pastas and cereals...then I'd worry.

Hello! New to this ratio thing. How do you calculate the 50/25/25 of a 1500 calorie diet? I must be having a brain blank because I can't figure it out. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Choco, that's what mine ends up looking like too. But elin, I am striving for your numbers, and I think it's a fine compromise :)
I am not knowledgeable about the numbers thing but in looking at my break down I see I am very low on the protein number. I wonder what foods aside from red meat will boost that. I will have to keep an eye on it and strive for better numbers.
hi, gogolf, sorry i've been away for a few days (in more ways than one!)(my scales didn't like it either!) anyway, here's the answer if you didn't find it already:
1500 cals a day, you take .50 x 1500 to get the cals from carbs, and then divide by 4 (cals per gram) and get 187.5 grams of carbs.
1500 cals x .25 is the cals from fats, divide by 9 (cals per gram of fat) and you get 42 grams of fat.
1500 cals x .25 is cals from protein, divide by 4 (cals per gram of protein) and you get 94 grams of protein.
that's my 50% 25% 25% ratio. as you know, it varies. but this is neat, because when i look at the pie chart, it should divide exactly down the middle, and the left half should also divide in half.

I cant ever get mine to balance! I have a difficult time getting enough carbs and protein. And my fat is always too high. But i'm still working on it!! Right now I'm at 40/30/30 because it comes closest to what I usually eat.
