3rd week on CC - have I already hit a plateau?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all,

During my first to weeks I managed to loose 2.6 Kg - which was beyond my expectation.

During those two weeks I managed consume about 1400-1600 calories on average, although I was supposed to be at around 1200 calories (my sendentary consumption is about 1700 calories, I have an office job, and sit down roughly 60 hours per week including transit times).

I'm buring roughly 2000-2200 calories per day. If the weather is really nice during weekends I may consume more as I then enjoy long bike rides and forest hikes.

The last 4 days I kept my calorie intake below 1400 calores and the last 2 days I've been around 1200.

If my math doesn't fail me completely I should have lost about 1lbs or ½ a kilo by now during these last few days, but I haven't lost anything at all.

1) Since Friday I have not lost any weight at all - should I be concerend?

2) Have I hit a plateau this early on?

3) Does my body already think that there is a famine and therefore refuses to burn calories efficiently?

4) Should I increase my calorie intake?

5) Or is this normal?

6) Any ideas/suggestions?

I'm 160 cm (5'2") tall and my current weight is 69.2 KG (153 lbs), my goal weight is 56KG (124 lbs).

It's normal.   2.6kgs in 3 weeks is a good average so you shouldn't panic.  Your body is probably just having a short 'pause'... to be a plateau it needs to go on for several weeks.  If you're using up 2200 average and you're taking in 1500 average that should be fine.   Your weight can be higher or lower on any given day for all kinds of reasons but it's the trend that counts.

Don't change what you're doing.  Be patient.

Hi GI-Jane,

Thank you for the reassuring words.

I will try to be more patient and continue doing what I'm currently doing Smile

I find that even if I stick to a healthy calorie intake (~1500 on days I don't exercise and ~1800 on days I do), there is another factor that influences my weight loss. I try to consume 25-30 g of fiber daily and drink 100+ oz. of water. When I stray from this, I don't lose or don't lose as quickly. Have you had a good BM in the last few days? Maybe those pounds are "stuck" inside of you. I agree with GI-Jane's advice as she's one of the smartest gals on these forums but don't forget about using fiber and water to rid your body of excess waste. I know it helps me. Good luck!

Thank you for your feedback as well kthompson, you definitely also got a point there, i didn't think about that!

Thanks for the pointers as well, I am currently aiming to drink abou 3 liters of water pr day, but I averagely get about 2 liters.

For the fibers, I´m eating about 4 slices of dark bread daily, but I am wondering if there are other ways (less rich also) of getting enough fibers.

I use benefiber if I'm short on fiber for the day.  Just mix it in a large glass of water and you'll never know.  One serving has 3g of fiber and you can have up to 3 servings/day.  I find I usually don't need more than 1 serving a day (if at all) to up my fiber intake.

Also, look into the fiber one products on the market.  Their oats and chocolate bars taste almost like candy bars to me and I think they have, like, 9 grams of fiber.  YUMMY.

Good luck!
