Re-evaluating my goals... also a question for the girls!

Quote  |  Reply

Hello all,

I'm 5'6", started at 180, am down to 138ish. My goal WAS 120 (I have a small/petite frame) but now I'm somewhat questioning that. I don't want to be unhealthy. Is 130 a better weight goal for now? Obviously I would love that because it would mean I only have about 10 pounds more to go! Laughing But I am trying to be realistic. I would really like to be able to wear a size 6 jeans (29) with them being somewhat loose (I used to weight 115 and wear a size 4, but I had no muscle then and NO butt, and I would like to keep my hard-earned butt and just fit in a slightly large size!). I think that I could probably fit in those if I lose 10 pounds, but I am not entirely sure. Once I fit that size, I don't think I'll pay attention to the scale because I'll be focusing on gaining lean muscle and definition. Do you think I need to go lower though, to the 120 mark? I don't think I've weighed that much since I was 14, and I was very, very thin, a size 0-2.

Lastly, it's ttom, and I gained almost 3 pounds this week... is it safe to assume that's only water weight? I haven't binged in months... I don't see any other reason for the gain. What do you all gain when mother nature visits? lol...

thanks!

If you get to the point where you're happy with how you look/feel, stop.  Numbers mean very very little.

And it's most likely water weight. :)  I can gain up to 4 or so pounds, though it's usually only for a couple days.

I agree - I don't want to lose weight for the heck of it or for a number, I just want to feel like "myself" again; comfortable in my own skin. I've been underweight and I don't like how it feels, either. Hopefully I will feel "right" sooner than later - these last few pounds are really giving me a hard time. I just want my inner thighs to stop touching and my stomach to be flat again! *pout* ;)

Thanks, I thought maybe it was just water weight... although it's been around for the past 3 days... hopefully it will all go away very soon.

I would say aim for 130 and see how you feel when you get there.  There's no rule saying you can't switch your goal back to 120 again if you feel that's best, but you can't really know until you get close.  After all, that new butt muscle will weigh more than butt flab would.  So you might find you are the same size as before at 5-10 pounds heavier.

I'm 5'7" and thinking back to my younger years I first started gaining weight, I think 125-130 was the pretty thin for me.  I personally have long legs and not very large hips or boobs.   If you are shapely, 135-140 is probably a better goal.

I think the real test is how you look.  Ideally you want to look healthy, but with no "bulges".   No bones sticking out at your hips and shoulders, no sunken cheeks, arms and legs that don't look like sticks.  But you also don't want bulges around your bra strap and thighs that slap together as you walk!

I'm also 5'6" and in the 130 range. I gain up to 5 pounds around my period. I've let my weight go down to 127, but at that weight, and even around 130, I find that my breasts and butt go flat and I feel sickly. I've decided that a toned body around 134 works better for me :)

Hi! Pingala, totally agree!

I am 5'6 as well and weigh around 130 right now. I have been trying to get to 125, but it just seems not healthy for me. My body hovers around 130 and when I was 127 for about...2 weeks...I just didn't feel good. My ribs showed alot and my butt was gone! I would say see how you feel at 130. Personally, I think girls our height have crazy low goals for their weight. It all depends on how you look and feel. Right now at 130 I am about a size 4. You will most likely be a 6 or below at 130. Hope I helped a little!

I am 5,5 and weigh 113 now, just got my annual physical done and seems that I am quite healthy, got some blood test done checking for anemia and seems that I am doing just fine.

My nutritionist in Mexico, before moving into the states, told me that 52 kilos, which is almost 113, 114 pounds I think is the minimun I should weight to be healthy.

But again, I eat tons of whole grains, and proteins, and I use calorie counter because of the analysis tool, which tells me how much protein, calories and carbohydrates I am consuming per day, and of course, my sodium intake, I try to check on those numbers to make sure I am eating what is necesary, so even if I am thin I know I am thin and healthy.

I don't think two people are alike, everybody is different and our bodies are all different and respond in different ways, so don't compare yourself to others statistics or weights because your bodie has a unique way of behaving and its own limits.

I am pretty sure the weight you gained is water weight, happens to me everytime my period comes or is about to come.

good luck :)
