Is it possible to re generate muscle mass if you continue daily cardio?
In losing 154 lbs I lost considerable muscle I am debating shutting down cardio entirely until I get my muscle mass back in re generation mode.......any thoughts?
Re gaining muscle generally means weight lifting. Keep doing the cardio but add in weight lifting 3 days a week. Remember you might pick up a pound or two when you do regain you muscle mass you lost. If you need a weight lifting work out there are some really good suggestions in the fitness FAQ at the top of these forums or you could post anothe topic to that effect there are some very knowledgable people on here
Lift weights according to the hypertrophic principles (just google hypertrophia for more info) and eat towards muscle growth, ie. eat plenty of protein (1g/pound is often recommended) and eat more calories than you need: roughly 2000-3500 more to build a pound of dry muscle. Yes, you will put back on some fat doing this as well and you will have to eat extra for what you are burning in cardio as well. You can do cardio and grow muscle at the same time but it will be more challenging than doing only weight lifting.
what the previous 2 posters said - you need to lift weights and continue cardio.
Without lifting weights, actual weight training not just 5-10 lb weights, you will lose muscle and lose fat and eventually your % body fat can actually increase even if you lose weight... plus, the more muscle you have the more calories your body burns by default sitting on your butt.
