if "you" take a break from exercise for a while (intentional or not) will weight come off any faster (even at the beginning) when you re-start?
bump.
Maybe... maybe not. Kinda depends on how long you took a break and what your deficit is. Depending on the exercise, you might even gain a little weight from muscles retaining water. Taking a break can help, but it won't necessarily make weight loss faster. But it's still good to do every so often.
Unrelated: Just out of curiosity, why is "you" in quotes?
i just meant the general you. i dont know why i put it in quotes lol, i never do. weird.
I was wondering that too!! I'm currently on a break due to an injury. I have been gaining weight too since I have been out of commission. I am SO hopeful that once I start back up with my running that I will go back to where I was before my injury! Hopefully a few more weeks!!!!
Ditto k-loo (stupid stress fractures!). A trainer I talked to assured me that as long my muscle mass hasn't been seriously compromised, I should be okay when I get back to working out, since the percentage of muscle contributes to an increased metabolism. While I haven't been to the gym in a couple weeks, I've been trying to do some basic stuff (situps, pushups, etc) from home, just to keep myself from losing that muscle memory and mass during my down-time.
If it helps at all, my boyfriend goes through phases of being a workout-o-holic to completely stagnant for several weeks (school stress and such). He's been known to put on almost 10 lbs during these down periods. However, within 1 or 2 weeks of working out again, he usually has his 6 pack back and is often at a lower weight than he was before. I'm choosing to tell myself my body will do the same thing, haha!
OMG!!! Thank you so much for the post horsinaround23!!! I REALLY need to hear that! I have been so hard on myself because of gaining a few pounds and not being able to really do much about it. I have been doing circuits every morning and even though I shouldn't...I have been doing a little on the elliptical. Not pushing it on either though, but just enough to feel like I have done a little something. I think maybe another week or so and I will be able to start jogging....slowly, again! I'm counting down the days!!! :-)
