RE: I am Starving! - The result
So yesterday was horrible. As per my post in the Weight Loss forum, I ate a big breakfast earlier than normal and ended up starving 3 hours later.
Actually, I was starving all day. And I didnt eat the things I should. My menu looked like this:
Breakfast (6:15 am): Omelete with tomato and parmesan cheese, 2 slices honey wheat bread, some oatmeal
After breakfast: (7:30 am): Soy latte
Lunch (11:30 am): fried grouper fish, brown rice, veggies with lots of hot sauce
After lunch (12:30 pm): fat free yogurt
*And I thought I was doing well, BUT*
After after lunch (1:45 pm): Caramel pretzel with powdered sugar
Another snack (3:00 pm): BIG bag of doritos and a snickers bar
Another snack (6:00 pm): HUGE cream cheese danish
Yet again (8:30 pm): Chocolate milkshake from Wendys
Dinner (finally 9:45): Fish deep fried in bad oil, greasy peas and rice, GREASY baked macaroni and cheese, FAT FILLED cole slaw with lots of mayo, a few fries, coke REG. coke (I never drink reg. soda)
I havent even bothered to think of the calorie count for yesterday.
So Im assuming yesterday had to do with my TTOM to be honest. But I woke up this morning determined to get on track. I will do good today. I just feel it.
I didnt exercise yesterday either. But I will do something today.
Any comments, suggestions on how to stop days like yesterday?
Today is a new day. Don't stress too much over it, because you can't change yesterday - but learn from it today.
If you start feeling peckish again, just think about snack alternatives. I know it's hard when you're stuck at work or school, but for example, instead of that chocolate shake at Wendy's - I'm sure there is a grocery store near by or even a convenience store where you could grab some fruit or veggies - or even opt for one of their salads. The advent of drive-through places with salads is in my opinion the greatest thing that's happened in the past 20 years!
By all means, if you genuinely feel hungry, eat something - just make a good choice about what you want to put into your body. :)
Good luck!

This is where you need to start IMO. Sit down for a minute and calculate the calories you took in and then think of how LONG you have to exercise just to burn off the big bag of Doritos. Walking a mile will only burn off an average of 100 calories. It's just not worth it- not to me anyway. You should put this into perspective and not be afraid to sit down and do the math. Use it as your future deterrent and as motivation to push yourself in the right direction.
"But I woke up this morning determined to get on track. I will do good today. I just feel it."
This will sound very cliche, but you can't "just feel it." You need to just do it no matter how unmotivated you may feel, tired, et cetera.
By no means am I a perfect eater, but I really strive not to go overboard. Everyone deserves to splurge now and then but NOT to the point of sabotaging all of the hard work you've put in.

This works for me everytime no matter how much I want to eat something I shouldn't. I get up every morning between 5:30 and 6:00 and go work out. I bust my tail doing it even when I don't feel like it.
But as soon as I think about eating the wrong things, I go back to that morning and how hard I worked and dessert or whatever doesn't sound so good when you put it into perspective on how hard you have to work to offset it.
For instance that chocolate triple shake from McDonald's (used to be my favorite) is 770 cals for one cup, that is one hour on the treadmill going at 5.0 mph, no way I am adding that on top of my already tough workout.

I use to calorie count. I have been for years. And I have struggled with an eating disorder. So this go around I prefer not to count so as I do not consume my mind with calories again...that will just lead me no where fast.

Ha you're right it does sound cliche. But Yes I will strive not to go over board today. Whether I want to or not. But I want to :)

I know we're all told how important it is to have a big, healthy breakfast... And breakfast IS important. But, like you, if I eat a big ol' breakfast, I find myself dying to stay THAT full and satisfied for the whole rest of the day. So my advice is to start small... Eat enough to not be hungry in the morning. For me, that's an egg and a piece of toast right after I get up, and then two or three hours later, I have 1/2 cup of yogurt with a little fruit and a tablespoon of Nutty Nuggets mixed in. That adds up to about 300 calories for my breakfast in total, and spreading it out not only ensures that my body is ready for it (rather than stuffing yourself when you don't really need that much at once), but also it keeps you fueled enough (every two-three hours) that you don't suddenly feel like you have to eat out the freezer.
I hope that helps! Think smaller, healthier portions, and spread them out to keep you energized. Good luck, and have a great day! :)

I completley agree with this. This morning I had just a pot of yogurt and I feel fine. 3 hours later I just had my snack which was also small and my total for the morning "breakfast" is about 300 cals.
Thanks :)
My question is - since you were clearly hungry all afternoon, and had time to go to wendy's for a milkshake at 8:30, why did you wait til almost 10pm to have dinner?
Definitely, you need to move on today - eat normally and make good decisions. But also think about what happened yesterday. The problem wasn't that you ate a lot in the morning and so were hungry, it's that you then made poor choices that clearly didn't satisfy your hunger for the entire afternoon-evening.
I mean, the regular soda is not the worst of what happened, but when you were ordering, why would you order that, when it is no more filling than a diet soda? Especially when you normally don't drink regular?
I'm not trying to be mean, and I don't want to get all pycho-babble on you, but I'm concerned that this points to a "all or nothing" mentality - you saw that your day had gone down hill, and so you said "**** it" and just kept eating poorly. One mistake doesn't have to mean that the rest of the day is lost.
Again, good for you for moving forward today. But don't forget that one poor choice does not ruin the day, unless you follow it with 6 more poor choices.
Hmm dont worry, everyone **** up at times... well at least i know i do hahah, but dont worry, u get bak in trak in 3-4 days :L
Damn the TTOM. I was like that but with chocolate. I swear I ate like 3lbs in chocolate and it was valentines day. Its kool though I get like that too. I will be good all day when Im at work then I get home and I dont start dinner till late and I will end up snacking on everything I see.

I didnt buy the milkshake, it was bought for me. I didnt move a step for it. I myself actually went and bought my dinner after school which ended 9 something.

It wasnt my soda. my friend bought it and she didnt want it. So I was thirsty and there was nothing else around so I drank the soda.

I have struggled with my eating for a few years. And I am quite aware of my "all or nothing" mentality. Im working on it. Just a few months ago I probably would have purged or felt REALLLLLLY guilty about it. This time, I just brushed it off and thought of a new day. So Im proud of myself for that much.
Again, good for you for moving forward today. But don't forget that one poor choice does not ruin the day, unless you follow it with 6 more poor choices.
I working on that. But thanks for your advice

Abrupt changes in the time we eat can cause hunger throughout the day. If you want to totally change when you eat, I suggest keeping small/low cal snacks such as apples, carrots, pretzels on hand to help you through those instances where your body thinks its hungry. The change isn't immediate.
If you're really struggling with hunger, try eating unprocessed foods. That means no chips, candy bars, breads, etc. Go with fruits, veggies, nuts, berries, and I recommend adding in a low-fat dairy like yogurt, milk or cottage cheese.
You might want to do some reading on empty calories and High Fructose Corn Syrup. You'll be amazed what we eat when you start reading the labels.... ![]()
Good luck!

yes we all have our hard days. dont worry you will get on track. it sounded like your morning went well are you still hanging in their now that it is almost 4pm?
I make it a point not to have a big breakfast because my body then expects it throughtout the day. same with if I have a big dinner I will wake up starving...so think small all day and keep healthy snacks at hand. If I feel hungery I will drink a glass of cold water and wait 15 min if I still feel hungry I will eat some fresh fruit (like grapes or an apple or orange) or some fresh carrots or cucumber with a little bit of salt. then I will wait 15 min. most of the time that will hold me till my next real meal.
hope I helped and I wish you all the best for the rest of your day!

Amen brother! :) I opt for the supposedly low-cal vanilla cone (150) from Macs now! I'd rather make smarter food choices and not have to increase my exercise time than vice versa. ![]()

Well I'm glad you didn't bother counting the calories if that wouldn't have created major anxiety for you. No one needs excess stress in this world. Just do the best you can to learn from your previous mistakes and make the next day a better one.
I hope today was good for you :).
Yeah, that old cheesy Nike slogan is the only thing that gets me off the couch some days (seriously).
Okay so i'm not sure if other people have said this yet, i didn't have time to read all the responses but the ones i did read were good advice.
as far as breakfast goes...space it out. I'd be stuffed too if i ate that much all at once. Try eating just egg whites, lots of filling protien but without the extra calories so you can afford calorie wise to have more than 2. So make some, put a little cheese on them, then after an hour or so eat your oatmeal and bread. I personally don't eat any grains in the morning unless it is granola. They make me sleepy. If you have the same routine every morning, your body will get tired of it. I'd suggest replacing the bread with fruit. ie a cup and a half of mixed berries with 1/4 C part skim or low fat ricotta cheese. SOOO GOOD, and good for you. Its def filling and only about 150 calories.
lunch- your choice was pretty good, though i'd avoid the fried stuff and go with baked fish. sometimes a little bit of fried can make you crave more and since you've had it that day already its much easier to plow right through the line you draw for yourself.
dinner- wow....you eat a late supper. If theres any way to, avoid this. Don't eat after about 7:30pm at night. If you get hungry after a meal, chew some sugar free gum or brush your teeth. It will maybe help deter you from binge snacking. Keep your mind and hands busy during this time also, do a load of laundry or dishes. Maybe read a really interesting book or watch a long movie so you're inclined to not walk away from it to the kitchen.
snacks- i suppose the best advice would be, keep healthy things with you during the day. Granola bars, 100 cal packs of oreo crisps, sugar free pudding, a square of dark chocolate. All of these things are good enough to satisfy a craving for sweets and they won't break the bank....just be careful to not eat ALL of them. lol.
I hope that helped. :)
tblover900- Thanks, thats actually some pretty good advice.
And as far as breakfast goes, I dont normally eat that big a breakfast. I also dontnormally wake up that early. I only ate that big breakfast because I woke up earlier thinking it would hold me out- boy was I wrong.
About lunch, I know the fried isnt too good but it was fried in I cant believe its not butter (not the best stuff but less calories than nasty oil).
Dinner, Yea I also dont normally eat that late at night. I was just really "on a roll". I didnt really care what I ate and how late I ate it. As far as I was concerned the day was already **** up so it didnt matter- and Im working on this mentality.
Snacks, thats a good idea. Except Im the type of person that would eat every single thing at once. I cant store food. I have to buy it piece by piece, day by day. Its easier for me to resist buying something than to resist eating it once its already there.
But you did help. Thanks :)
