How to reach my GOAL WEIGHT?? [new please help]

Quote  |  Reply

Im 17 years old and I weigh about 90lbs. I cant seem to get past 90lbs :( I'm naturally like this but  I'd really like to weigh about 115 before I go to college or at least by Sept 1 or at least somewhere in the 100's.

My eating habits are fine, I seem to eat more than I did about 3 months ago thoug, I do exercises like different types of lunges/squats/calf raises/biking/alot of walking because of work. When I exercise with weights I use ankle weights and 8lb dumbbells because thats all I have.

I really want to gain some weight. Please please someone help me.
How can I gain at least 1-2lbs a week? maybe even 3?

alright.

a few things. could you tell me your height and if possible a brief description of what you would normaly eat in a day.

cut out the biking (at least during the period in which you want to gain) and try something a bit heavier than 8lb dumbells. Try making your own home made weights out of milk jugs or whatever you may have available and use these weights in order to do squats, calf rises, lunges, etc.

But cannot really say for sue till you provide the previous info. Everything can be sorted out with working out your daily meals (unless you have some thyroid problem which of course should be checked with your doctor).

I'm 5'3 and I eat pretty much anything and everything, I cant really give you a list because it changes everyday.

try to start off with 2500 calories per day. Check out this thread : http://caloriecount.about.com/weight-gainers- eat-today-ft92954-374

To key is to eating alot and dividing it throughout the day in several meals instead of three big ones. The reason behind this is that in this manner you are constantly fueling yourself and since your metabolism also increases you are also allowing it to take it from the food you eat rather than from eating up the reserves you have (and of course want to keep on as solid weight). Also its easier to put higher amount of calories in smaller portions than in big hulks.

Also stop cycling unless you absolutely must. Caridovascular activities counter your progress. Weights are good yet increase the weight and do less of them in order to bulge out the muscle mass.

okay. Thanks.

Do you know of any foods and drinks I could get that could help?

Protein shakes, nut butters, avocados, olive oil....the list goes on. Try and place an emphasis on healthy fats in your diet, which will help you gain weight easier as they offer plenty of calories and not too much volume.

Here's what I use when I'm trying to pack on lean muscle:

- 'GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein' (20 grams of protein, 300 Calories, 70 Fat Calories).

- 'Pure Protien' bars (32 grams of protein, 310 Calories, 70 Fat Calories).

When I want to tone up or lose weight, I use this as a dietary suppliment in place of meals (with high cardio). When I want to pack on lean muscle I eat the whey and bars in addition to my regular meals. Bombacho is correct...you need 2500+ calories per day to put on weight. Reduce the cardio (don't stop completely). At your age, you probably still have a relatively active metabolism....and increase the weights.

Also, stop using the ankle weights.  They tend to cause injuries more than they actually help.  And, with you being so small, they're even more likely to injure you.  Dumbbell exercises are good though.  Make sure you're lifting the heaviest amount that you can for 10-12 reps.  Bodyweight strengthening exercises like push ups are also good.
