Reached a Marker, Now I Keep Going Over...

Quote  |  Reply

I just need some encouragement. I've been going over my goal caloric intake for the past.... I don't know. Probably 2 weeks now?  At first, it was great, I still lost a little bit of weight, and I still think it was good for my metabolism.  Now, however, I have probably honestly gained 1-2 pounds, and frankly, need some help getting back on the wagon!

Any encouragement is appreciated.  Has anyone else experienced this? Especially after reaching a goal? (I just broke 160, although my final goal is just under 150)  How did you get past it?

It's very easy once you get to a reasonably healthy weight to lose the momentum because, let's face it, what's looking back at you in the mirror each morning is a pleasing image! Smile  It's one of those ironies of nature that the closer you get to a healthy weight and the longer you've been losing weight the MORE accurate and conscientious you have to be about exercise and food in order to keep going.  Just as your enthusiasm is waning ... you need to step it up!

I go back to first principles and set out my plan for the week in advance.  I make sure that the week contains all my favourite foods, lots of variety and some new stuff to keep me interested.  Exercise I'm rubbish at but I'll stick on the pedometer and get 10,000 steps a day if it kills me.  Then it's just a question of a little determination... no getting away from it.

Another idea is to aim for maintenance.   You could decide to stay at your current weight until the New Year perhaps and focus on managing the next 6 weeks ... building up your food intake to maintenance levels, carrying on making healthy choices, keeping going with exercise.   It could be a good 'dry run' for when you are at 150.   Good luck

What you have described probably happens to most people trying to achieve weight control.  I think it will not be your first time to receive the blow of gaining weigiht.  There is a term "soldier on" and that is your task now.  You obviously have done well to get to your first goal.  Decide what your next step is..............you have to have a plan and stick with it.  Which is not to say there won't be detours along with way.  Three days ago my weight was the lowest it has been in the almost 12 weeks I have been using CC........... then two days ago up .2 lb., yesterday up.2 more.  I took a deep breath and continued.  This morning it is down .4 so I am back where I was so excited earlier.  Not as excited because this is not going to be always on a high, there are down moments as well.  I am in it for the long run.  Good luck with your journey to health.

Thanks for the encouragement.  I finally am back on track, eating a little bit more than I did when I originally lost the weight (I'm around 2100 each today, although i burn about 2500, so I'm alright)

Remarkably, I'm only up 1 pound, so its good to know that my body is somewhat resilient to that weight gain....

I'm on board again, and under 160!  Woo Hoo!
