What are you reading?

It's summer!  Time for fluffy summer books and sitting in the sun.  So, what are you reading?  Actually, what have you just finished, what are you reading right now, and what's next?

I just finished my first Christopher Moore - A Dirty Job, I'm currently reading Elmore Leonard - Get Shorty, and I'm planning on Paul Quarrington - King Leary.

Just finished The Good Earth, Pearl S. Buck.

Currently reading The Moor, Laurie R. King (a Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes story).

Planning to read The Billionaire's Vinegar, Benjamin Wallace (true story based mystery of the world's most expensive bottle of wine).

Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris

I still haven't read The Good Earth, but it's on my list.  I've heard of Definitely Dead.  Do you like it schnooder?  It's about zombies right?  You might like A Dirty Job. It was a fun read.

Right now The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Next up The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

Ah, time for a good romance.  Currently on Then Comes Seduction by Mary Balogh - she's one of my favorite authors.

Definitely not fluffy, but Sickened by Julie Gregory. A true story about Munchausen by Proxy.

I think I'll head to the Erotica section I found at my local bookstore and pick something out from there for my next book. :)

I'm reading "Human Rights" short introduction. Not thrilling but quite interesting.

I loved Pillars of the Earth.  I have the second one but haven't opened it yet.  Same with The Time Travelers Wife.  I heard that it's a good read, but it doesn't really appeal to me.  I'm going to force myself to start it.  If it's awesome, let me know and I'll move it closer to the top of the pile.

I've read one Mary Balogh, but romance isn't really my thing.  It was funny and quick, good for the summer.  One thing though, she kept reapeating a phrase over and over which was irritating.

As for Sickened, that's definitely going on the list.  Is it worth it?  Andie, why Human Rights?  Tell me more.

Because it would seem that today every time you switch on the news there is something which brings into question a breech of someones human rights, so I started to wonder if human rights like so many other things has lost site of what it was originally brought in for, and to answer this question I figured the best thing to do was find a book which explain the human rights history it's activism and law.

Sickened is a good read. It's pretty easy too. You just have to be in a somewhat tolerable mood, because it is pretty sickening. She actually adds some humour into it that keeps you sane while reading.

So, is it helping or are you even more perplexed?  The world isn't a logical place and human rights never seem to have been a priority.  Ever read "Race Against Time" by Stephen Lewis?  It's very depressing how the West treats Africa.

I looked up the author.  I'm definitely going to read this one.

I've read every book in this series. They're a lot of fun! The HBO series "True Blood" is based on these books.

And, wow, I thought I was the only person who's read The Good Earth. I loved that book.

I just finished "Water for Elephants" (it was okay) and am now reading "Sunshine", by Robin McKinnley. It's another book about supes. Although I'm good about mixing some good literature into my collection, I just love books about the supernatural.

It is so far confirming my thoughts that in some instances it has gone GA GA.

No I haven't read that I may give it a look once I have digested this. I like to read slowly and often re-read bits to be sure I have understood the point of view the writer has tried to get across.

A Long Way Down - Nick Hornby

I just finished "Honor Few, Fear None" by Ruben Cavazos, the former international president of the Mongols motorcycle "club."  I love living vicariously through other people's biographies!  Now I'm reading Down Around Midnight by Robert Sabbag.  It's the memoir of a plane crash and the aftermath.  Definitely not what you'd call "summer reading" but I always throw in something trashy or easy once in a while :D

I keep writing down what sounds good for tomorrow's trip to the library.  Keep 'em comin!  lol

I just finished a medical journal that had a good article on ammonia levels in the blood.  It explains the rash of ammonia testing that's been going on at the hospital lately.  All of the little residents learned something new.  How sweet.

I don't know what I'll be reading next.  Depends on what looks good on the shelves at the library.  Just not more medical journals, 'cause if I find out the cause of the lactic acid craze, I'm going to go off on the next **** who orders one for the fourth time on the same patient.

Just finished reading Pride and Prejudice.  (For like the tenth time!)

"Chemistry made Simple" (ya, right)Yell

I just finished Rape: The Misunderstood Crime, I'm currently reading Criminology (for the 3rd time), and I'm planning on reading Validity and Reliability of Detection of Deception.

Er, not exactly fluffy summer reading, is it? Wink
