Getting ready for the empty nest (Buddies needed)

Quote  |  Reply
Hello everyone, Debbie here, 47 and just joined, I must say this web site is almost as addicting as food. I'm looking for support buddies to help through not only my quest to lose 55lbs but to share some advise for my up coming emptynest. I just finished college my self (huge accomplishment) and now I'm looking to lose all the weight I gained while studing. The problem I seem to be having is that I think about food all the time while at work. When I get home I have enough to keep me busy where food is not an issue, infact I almost forget to eat when I'm home. I'm gussing that my job is boring me (can't imagine that)lol. As far as the empty nest thing goes my youngest is getting ready to graduate this year and then head off to college, honestly I'm looking foreward to and dreading it at the same time.

Hello Debbie,

Another empty nester here.  Mine left and then came back and left again and then came right back, so I moved out and let them have the house.

Hi Debbie,  I've been going through the 'empty nest' thing now for a year and a half especially since my little girl decided to go to college 800 miles away!  I miss her a lot and have gained some weight since she left which I'm now trying to take off.  My best advice about being hungry at work is to take some healthy snacks...carrot sticks, celery sticks, or something low fat and crunchy.  Something funny is that I thought once my girls moved out my house would be cleaner...NOT.  My husband and I leave things out as bad as the kids did!

Good one!!

Since I work on an air-force base bringing food is almost essential, since the cafeteria is about a 15min walk and we only get 30min for lunch. One of the girls I work with has started a walking group, I joined today and ate my lunch after, all healthy food, I try to shop over the weekend and bring lean cuisines for the week plus extra snacks, still I don't know if it's just the fact of knowing that this is all that's available or I feel like I'm depriving my self. I'm not traditionally a bad eater. I do like something sweet with my coffee in the morning though, substiuting a bananna now and a couple of fig nutons if I feel deprived. Also brought a jar of pickles and pickled green beans to snack on. They help.

Welcome rdy2liv! You sure came to the right place! There are a lot of empty nester's around here and most of us are trying to lose...a few here trying to gain.

If you don't think of eating when you are home, but do at work...perhaps it is time for a career change! LOL!

Walking and eating high fiber, nutrient dense fruits & vegetables and high quality protein should do the trick for you. Also stick with whole grain cereals & bread/crackers. The pickles is a trick I use too...low in calories, huge on flavor! Word to the wise though....be careful as the sodium in most pickles is extremely high which can cause you to water load. BIG TIME! Oh yeah...really push that water! Welcome Again! Good luck!
