Real Motivation... This did it for me!

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, I know we all find our own motivators out there but the book 'SKINNY BITCH'  really did it for me.

Eventhough it's written by two Hollywood starlet wannabes it's actually really informative. In the first chapter, I started to rethink my favorites like coffee and caffeine, dairy like yogurt and cottage cheese, and lean ground turkey. Eventhough there are definitely worse choice out there, these aren't that great either! Who knew?

Also, if you feel you log more than your fair share of minutes at the gym per week, just cut the calories the easy way! Eat a gardenburger, have a side salad no fries. The salad instead of fries move will cut 10 pounds a year without lifting your butt off the couch. So imagine if you factor in the calories you're burning at the gym.... BINGO weightloss!

These girls are obnoxious and opinionated, but what they have to say actually makes sense. Small sacrifices will seem that much smaller. Giving in to the temptations of snacks, candy, and sodas you will regret for the next few weeks as you try to figure out why you just can't lose any weight!

If anyone out there is looking for something to read while walking on the treadmill or peddling on the bike at the gym, this is it.

Let me know what you think!

whats wrong with cottage cheese?

I haven't read it yet, but I will now!  Who are the authors and which section of the book store would I find it in (diet, self-help, health?).

I know what you mean about rethinking the things you eat every day.  When I first started counting calories I was shocked to find that the 4ish tablespoons of half and half that go into my one, essential, morning cup of coffee was setting me back almost 200 calories!!  Now I use a little of my fiance's 2% milk (about 40 cal.) for coffee and drink organic skim!

Yaaaa I just finished reading skinny bitch! I found it at borders in like the diet section. Those two girls wrote a skinny bitch cook book too. or recipe book whatever. The girls are kinda annoying but o well..the info in it is good. WARNINGGGGGGG tho: It is basically a vegan diet. It almost made me consider being vegan, but I think that would be wayy too hard and i dont see how milking a cowcould be inhumane. However it did make me step out of my box and buy some boca burgers, stop drinking soda and aspartame. All in all...its a good book.

I bought this book too. Anyone buying it should be aware though that it is a more a persuasive essay on becoming vegan than anything else. Their diet plan has you giving up many foods ( alcohol, dairy, meat, sugar ) and that may not be realistic for many people.

However, if you are into the tough love of approach reading this sort of thing might motivate you. I was motivated by it, but I am motivated even more by reading these forums so... you may not want to spend your money. My best advice is to read a few pages in the bookstore and then decide for yourself.

I really liked this book, I found it very informative.  Although the girls use swearing as an attention getting method.  It really makes you stop and think, as some one who loves steak and cheese, although I'm not a vegan, I've cut back significantly on the dairy and meat products.  It's converted me about 70% to whole grains, no white sugar, white flour, white rice, and buying organic as much as possible.
This book was complete ****, seriously they are so annoying the only thing that i got out of the book was to use stevia!! all they do is ramble on and on about how milk ppl are just out to get ur money blah blah blah meanwhile under there "snacks that are SAFE to eat" (i thought it would be all like hey lets try some pb and celery) they put brands of vegan snacks...OH LIKE THOSE ARENT PAYING FOR UR BOOK OR PUTTING MONEY IN UR POCKETS!!! complete ****..that book was deceiving and royally pissed me off and i was all amped to read it to i got to maybe like pg 60 in like half of a day (and i hate reading) and as soon as i figured out it was a book trying to convert people to be vegans i got pissed and stopped reading it...seriously dont buy the book...it SUCKS!!!

sorry...had to get that off my chest! lol
This books is amazing!

Completely changed my outlook on my diet and helped me make a lot of food choices for the better. I recently loaned the book to my sister and she agrees!!

My sister isn't overweight (5'8, 135lbs) but has a bad diet and needed advice on how to improve it, get more nutrients, make healthier choices.

I on the other hand am currently losing weight and have ~20lbs to go (5'9, 165lbs) Im down from 219lbs and was looking for motivation, and info on how to make healthier choices.

Its a funny, informative book that is real tough love! and we both got a lot out of it.

In fact, ive just bought the follow up book (skinny bitch in the kitch) which is a series of recepies that follows the lifestyle, havent had a chance to try out the recepies yet but they look and sound amazing! (everything from cookies and brownies, to full lunches and dinners). Ill let you guys know how they turn out.
complete rubbish in my opinion
"complete rubbish in my opinion" Agreed!  The book borders on propaganda if you ask me, selecting the most horrendous, disgusting pieces of info out there.  Most people I know who have read this book (and I've only read bits and pieces) have had their moment of "oh my god what have I been doing to myself!" and then they come back to reality.
Skinny Bitch in the Kitch: Every recipe involved coconut oil. Seriously.

I read both books. Fairly annoying but they had some good (albeit biased) info on animal treatment and nutrition. It's worth a read but it didn't make me want to be vegan.
