Am I Being Realistic?

Quote  |  Reply

I have recently gained some rather unsightly weight which makes wearing various outfits a no no so post xmas binge on crap I have decided to do something about it.  I got on with calorie counting a couple of years ago because it meant that if I had a particularly good day full of salads and fruit I could treat myself to some chocolate.  I don't like exclusion diets so it suits me well.  My current weight is 146 (at 5'2'' that's a little too much) and I'm wanting to go down to 126 by May (friends wedding), by cutting my calories to 1500 a day, is this goal realistic?  Further question, I've had problems in the past with plateaus, does anyone think diet supplements like Adios work?

1500 sounds good to me. Are you going to be exercising too? Sorry, don't know about the diet supplement.

You are probably burning about 1700 cals/day if you are completely sedentary. If you can burn 300/day average through exercise, then you will lose about 1 lb week. It looks pretty realistic to me (If the wedding is about 20 weeks away) b/c your goal weight isn't set at the low end of healthy, so you shouldn't be struggling to lose those last few pounds like those who want to be at THE lowest healthy weight.

Plateaus often come from undereating, so try to get in that exercise rather than cut your cals. Best of luck!

Not quite sedentary, have plenty of stairs at work and my job involves lots of wandering between rooms so I'm not at my desk that often.  I also cycle to and from work, about 4 miles a day total and the evening run is up two hills so am getting a bit of a work out in most days except the weekend when I try and switch to a Davina work out DVD.

Thanks for the support guys!
