In the meantime, try and get in touch with some hobbies, even if you don't feel like you are enjoying them.
Maybe getting some caffeine from green tea would help. Eat the right foods, just not all junk food. Get better soon!
Also, add 2000mg of fish oil, 3x per day. This can enhance your mental attitude as American's brains are quite short of the omega 3's they need for proper functioning and mood. It may take over a month to notice a difference but the change could be significant.
Check out this link. Also, there are now international warnings about mercury in fish. Go easy. May be safer to utilize a supplement that's clean.
Like I said though, I'm not sure I'm remembering that correctly. Best to do some research.
Good Luck:)
Amy:)
I've been on 80 mg, gradually increased from 5mg every few days for the last year and a half, great energy after the first month, crash and burn after that. I have practically no energy whatsoever, my depression and suicidal tendencies have gotten WORSE since I started them, I've gained weight, I'm ALWAYS hungry but I have so little energy I have to take Zantrex 3 to exercise. My doctor won't listen to me and think about changing.
Anyhoo, talk to your doctor, If Prozac helps your depression, maybe they can just give you a mild upper to get out of bed in the morning. The only thing I DO NOT reccomend is doctor shopping for meds- That will only make you very sick, miserable, and confused.
Yeah, sorry about my rambling, good luck =)
how many mgs in your one daily dose?
First of all, it takes 4-6 weeks for an antidepressant to work. Sometimes longer. So you can't expect instant results. You could increase your exercise, a simple walk will help get your serotinin going. It also may be that prozac is not the drug for you. Do you take it at night? That sometimes helps. Lack of energy and excessive sleeping and weight gain are side effects. There are tons of newer SSRI's out there. Ask your doctor for something else. You should be having a follow up appt right about now anyway.
Calorie intake...I too am eating about 1300-1500 cals a day. I eat 5-6 small meals a day. Now it seems that I am hungry all of the time. Not stomach growling hungry but hollow stomach hungry. So I eat every 2-2 1/2 hours. I eat a yogurt and some almonds or a low fat muffin or a banana and the prepackaged high fibre oatmeal. These are snacks and I eat a healthy lunch and dinner (well dinner sometimes falls off the wagon, but I try). Eating small meals throughout the day also helps to keep your blood sugar level.
I have experience in this. I was diagnosed with double post partum depression 12 years ago. I wasn't diagnosed with the first child and it only got worse with the second. I was on prozac to start. What a disaster. I think that I slept for 6 months straight. I also work in pharmacy. So I am fairly familiar with this stuff.
I asked the doctor if I could use a newer SSRI and he suggested not to. Really I've been on prozac for over 10 years, but not consistently, but moreso than not. I asked if I could take a vacation (meaning weekends) from it and he replied why would you do that? He didn't believe it put on pounds because I'm not that overweight, just about 10 pounds. I'm 5'3" and 135 as of this morning.
What other SSRI would you suggest?
