Hi, I'm starting to increase my calorie intake a lot after anorexia. Please, someone tell me that 1500 calories is not going to make me fat. I'm 17 years old. Please, someone inform me of the right things. My mind is warped. Half the time I think I'm fat at 5'8" 107 pounds. I look gross. But I can't get it through my head about calories......
1500cals will not make you fat in the slightest.
When I upped my cals, I basecally ate whatever was on the menu! I forgot that my mouth loved food... oh, how I missed my nachos and jhalapenos..
Anyhow, I can guarentee you are not 'gross'.. but I do know where you are coming from..
I am still slightly underweight after eating again since oct/nov (I went down to 4 1/2 stone - unsure about lbs. and I have only just reached about 6'8st depending on water weight etc, when I can step on and be just under 7.. I still feel like you do, but you need to remember that curves = good.. think about it, who wants to wear a bikini and NOT have a good cleavage?
It will get better, i promise.. what you're feeling right now is adjusting to your body becoming what it should be. You are still underweight, so there is no way you could be in any shape or form 'gross' sweetie.
You're doing fantastic a eating 1500 again! Take it step by step, look in the mirror and tell yourself you are getting healthy, and healthy is beautiful!
I'm 5'5", 34 years old, and maintaining my weight at 1800 calories a day...you will not get fat at 1500 calories, but realize that your weight will vary throughout the day and the month due to a number of factors.
Hello - I have never been in your situation, but I thought that it might be helpful for you to know that I'm 5'7" and I'm actually losing plenty of weight at 1500 calories per day, so there is little chance that's going to make you fat.
I will not lie to you: you will gain weight. This is because 107 lbs at 5'7" is below a healthy weight, and therefore your body will gratefully take those calories and begin to rebuild itself to a healthy state. As you increase calories, I suggest starting a weight lifting routine. Gaining muscle while I put on weight after anorexia really helped me feel more assured and comfortable, because I felt good that my body was getting stronger and healthier as it was getting bigger.
What also helped me was looking past the number of calories a food had, and instead, the nutrition it had and how it would benefit my body. So instead of looking at an apple and simply thinking, "ugh, 70 calories" I now look at an apple and think, "rich in vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants." Best of luck to you hun!
Hey, I agree with Muttlover's advice. Consider all the nutrition you're getting from foods and stop counting the calories. This has really helped me in my recovery. I also had a hard time with being scared to up my calories, but I promise 1500 will in no way make you fat, and I'm not even quite sure if it could even be a maintenance intake for you if you're still recovering. I have to get anywhere b/w 3000 and 4000 a day and I'm still hardly gaining, I've only managed a few lbs in the last 4 months and if I go under that at all or decide I want to exercise in the slightest I'll lose. I'm also 5'8 and (x fingers crossed x) nearing 105.
You're well on your way to recovery and you know that you need to get healthy. It's hard when our mentality gets so screwed up but you have to remind yourself sometimes that you really are not thinking straight and focus on making yourself healthy again. Make it a goal to make your diet as balanced as possible every day, get in some light exersice like yoga or go for a walk to clear your mind, get some fresh air, and feel like you're doing something good for yourself. You can do this! We're all here for you!
I love that I feel like I have my own personal cheerleading team when I come on this site :) take advantage!
