I am NOT a "Recent Member!"

I've been surfing this site for quite a while, so imagine my surprise at seeing my cute user icon in the "recent members" box!  Hello CC, what  are you doing?  Ruining my image, that's what.  People are going to think I just go here :(

Is the recent members box just random, or does it mean "members who are online right now"  or something?

I saw mine there too and like you i have been here sometime now, i'm guessing it's just random.

You user icon appears once you log on. So it doesnt mean that you just created your account (as I myself believed), but rather that you just introduced your name and password and thus integrated yourself once again to the system.

-  try it - log off and back on and you shall see yourself on the recent members section.

I think it must just be random cuz I've seen myself on there and I've been here a year. I've also seen other people there who have been on the site multiple years.

yep Ive been around a while to so I was really surprised to see I keep appearing in the recent members box, and I get messages from people saying they saw me in the recent members box but Ive been around for a while!

i'm fairly certain it means recently logged on. 

well you're either new, recent, or past. Which would you prefer?! hehe

I'm glad this is such a common problem :D

My fears are averted ~browswipe.

Recent means "recently logged in"  I've been here 3 years tomorrow and I'm still a "recent" member
