Why does the recipe analyzer not recognize some ingredients?
I'm trying to analyze this recipe but it's not recognizing all of the ingredients. Can anyone help me?
2 pounds extra lean ground beef (96% lean)
2 onions chopped
4 cloves of garlic chopped
1 green pepper chopped
3- 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes
1 - 15 ounce can of tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tsp cumin
2 tsp black pepper
1-2 tsp crushed red pepper
1-15 ounce can spicy chili beans(do not drain)
2-15 ounce can black beans drained
You can try finding the ingredients in another window, noting the number at the end of the address string, and enter that number in brackets in your recipe.
For example: I looked up canned black beans, and picked Bush's brand. The http was http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-bush-b rothers-black-beans-i95047
So, I would enter it in my recipe as:
30 oz [95047] black beans, drained
2 pounds extra lean ground beef (96% lean)
2 medium onions, chopped
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 pepper, green, hot, chopped
14.5 oz tomatoes, diced, 3 cans
15 ounce tomato sauce, 1 can
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tsp cumin
2 tsp black pepper
1-2 tsp crushed red pepper
15 oz chili beans, spicy,(do not drain)
2-15 oz black beans, drained
try.
oops, sorry, the tomatoes should be 43 oz; 14.5 x 3
the line should read "43 oz tomatoes, diced"
that should work, i think...
43.5!! too many mistakes here! should go to bed!!
You're putting in the descriptions wrong. You must give the name of the ingredient first, right after the standard unit of measure. For instance
Not 2 pounds extra lean ground beef (96% lean)
But - 2 pounds Beef, extra lean
Not - 3- 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes
But - 43.5 ounces tomatoes, diced canned
(you can put further descriptions of ingredients in the instructions like this
Use three 14.5 ounce cans of diced tomatoes - total 43.5 ounces)
Do not use hyphens between your quantity and unit of measure. If you mean 1/2 then do not use 1-2. The analyzer can't match 1-15 ounce can with any quantity or unit of measure in the data base.
You can also specify ingredients by putting the item number in square brackets at the end of the description. ie: 2 pounds beef, extra lean [11631] The item number can be found at the end of the web address as shown bolded here:
http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-lauras -lean-96-percent-ground-i111631
I hope this helps. The Recipe Analyzer is a little tricky at first, but easy once you get the hang of it.
