Hello, new to the group! I had to start a new topic because I found an EXCELLENT website by cook Heidi Swanson that offers a plethora of delicious, fairly simple recipes using all whole foods. All recipes are vegetarian or vegan, but you could easily add meat if you wanted to (but why?;) ). Check it out! I've made the Broccoli Crunch Salad (delish!), Brussels Sprouts, and Slurptastic Noodles.

Thanks..going to check it out. I've just started the Meditarranean diet and looking for some great and fresh menus! Anyone have a good recipe for salad dressing without vinegar??
I don't like vinegar either. I use olive oil (1 tsp of really good olive oil is just as pungent as 1 tbsp of the bland stuff) with:
lemon juice or garlic or honey or mustard....
I have one major weakness : cheese! Does any one else have this problem? I hate the low fat kind : it tastes like plastic...
have you tried good wine vinegar or a sherry wine vinegar? I don't like regular vinager either - these are much less acidic.
I love cheese to and sometimes I make my own. It is real hard not to eat too much of it. I try to make sure I weigh the cheese so I only take one ounce at a time.
Call me crazy, but I think it is worth the calories.
Many times I shread it so I can get the flavor I want from just 1/2 an ounce.
Hope that helps :-)
Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.

I love really good cheese. As others have suggested, just have a smaller portion.
Of all the low fat cheeses, the only one that comes even close to edible, in my opinion, is Sargento reduced fat shredded. It has a nice, fresh, milky aroma, but goes moldy quickly. Actually that's not a bad thing because it means it's not loaded with preservative chemicals.
My favorite healthy food website is
This lady makes great food and has great recipes. There is a salad dressing recipe that you use vegetable broth corn starch, a season packet and vinegar if you choose. It is really good and is only about 15 cal per serving. We make a lot of the items on her website
Spinach raisins & pinenuts
saucy potatoes
chocolate banana muffins (from scratch with whole wheat flour)
2 different meatless chili recipes with no processed products
Just to name a few. I encourage you to visit her website. It is great!
A good resource is www.myrecipes.com
I mainly go for the Cooking Light recipes. The only drawback is that dessert recipes call for fat free or low fat milk products (and for desserts substitutions don't work).
Heidi Swanson is my idol! :) I just love love love her stuff. Have you seen the Super Natural Search Engine? Do a search for it. It is a custom Google search that she put together that indexes natural foods. Pretty awesome.
(Oh. By the way. Hi. I'm new to the group. Nice to meet you.
