On a diet of 1200 calories per day what are the nutritional guide lines to follow

ie

FAT

SAT FAT

PROTEIN

CARBS

SUGAR

SALT

FIBRE SODIUM

???

Also when you add foods in that youve had for the day it says underneath each item

*based on a 2000 calorie diet*

Does this mean if you are on a 1200 calorie diet the amounts are different?

Undecided

1200 cals is the bare minimum amount a lightweight, sedentary adult (over 21) female needs to merely function.  If you're younger than 21, reasonably active and/or overweight (BMI >25) then you should start at a much higher amount.  If you have a history of bulimia (profile info) then the worst thing you can do to yourself is starve..... it will cause you to binge.   If you're 166lbs 5'2" and 22 years old you should start the ball rolling at 1400-1500.

  • Fats.... 25 - 35%.  Get a mix of saturated and unsaturated
  • Protein.... 15 - 25%
  • Carbohydrates.... 50 - 65%.  Fruit, vegetables, wholegrain/high-fibre foods rather than too many simple starches
  • Sugar....  50g per day max
  • Salt.... 2400mg sodium or 6g salt
  • Fibre.... >25g per day

The 'based on a 2000 cal diet' refers to the percentages shown of various nutrients.

Try to get plenty of variety and good, wholesome foods rather than 'eating to the numbers'.   If you're still hungry, eat rather than feeling you have to tough it out.   Ultimately, food is meant to be nourishing and enjoyable rather than a maths exam.
