Recommended values of diet
Is there anywhere on this site that gives the "values" for the different ratings on the Analysis................carbs, sugar, protein etc.? If anyone knows if it is on this site or could recommend another I would appreciate it!
Thanks Barbara
What do you mean exactly by 'values'? If you input your food choices into the food log and press the 'analysis' button you'll get a pretty good breakdown applicable to your whole day. If you check out your individual food choices you'll get a more detailed nutrition breakdown.
Hi Jane
I may not have used a very good term ...........values is more a medical term which is my field. For instance someone wrote that carbohydrates should be restricted to 130 grams per day. How about fat? protein? What percentages of the diet is respresented by each category. That still sound confusing! But I think you will understand what I am attempting to convey! Thanks for your help!
Barbara
Different sources will reccomend different amounts but I think the most common break down is 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. Or 50% carbs, 25% protein, 25% fat.
1g fat = 9 calories
1g carbohydrate = 4 calories
1g protein = 4 calories.
Thanks so much bugsy, that is exactly what I was looking for! You hear so much about carbs I thought I might be overdoing it but not by either of the percentages you offered.
Barbara
The healthy range of percentages of fats carbs and protein are pretty wide
Fat: 20 - 35% of total calories (average 30%)
Protein: 10 – 35% (average 15%)
Carbohydrates: 45 – 65% (average 55%)
I found this by browsing the archives of our Ask Mary questions and answers. I'm sure it's elsewhere in the Advice section as well.
