recovering from ED - bmr??

Quote  |  Reply

Hi everyone -

I am 5'3' and used to weigh about 75 pounds as a result of a very complex eating disorder characterized by nonpurging bulimia/anorexia, and ketoacidosis. I am now at a much healthier 95 pounds (most of which is fat I think), but am now beginning to wonder how these disorders have wreaked havoc on my metabolism. I am managing to get in more than 1500 calories a day, but does anyone have any idea of how many calories my body is actually burning? When I reach a decent weight I would like to know for purposes of maintenance, otherwise I'm afraid I'll revert back to my old starving habits...

You have already taken the proper first steps towards developing and maintaining a healthy condition by acknowledging your eating disorders while beginning to realize what a negative impression it has left on your total psychological and physical being (not only your metabolism). Maintaining a positive mental attitude concerning your health will go a long way towards realizing your needs. One of the initial things you can do for yourself is to determine that to "revert back to my old starving habits" is NOT an option. Your ED probably took a while to evolve and you should be very patient and accept the length of time it is going to take to recover. You should then seriously consider working with your doctor (if you don't have one, get one) and a nutritionist to create a balanced diet, along with an exercise routine and a continuing support program until you are on a constructive path. Eating disorders are very serious health conditions which more often than not have disastrous consequences and put undue stress on our vital organs throughout our lifetime. The positive thing is that you are taking a proactive attitude and seem to have the ability to remedy your health condition within a practical period of time by making some very sane and reasonable decisions. Don't gamble with your health. Please care for yourself by seeking professional help. Best wishes.

Perhaps you should worry about that when you get there. If given that information you may use it in the wrong way. Having seen friends with severe eating disorders I actually think it would probably be more accurate to say that you will use it in the wrong way. Please focus on getting better.

i'd say about 1300-1350 if u are very lazy :). add an hour of walking/day and you can have like 1400 without gaining, add some time walking in your house (cleaning cooking) - about 2 hours and you get 1450-1500. that's how it works for me : 96 lb 5'2'', recovering bulimic/anorexic.

best of luck
