In recovery mode...

Quote  |  Reply
I am a recovering anorexic.  I have read so much about people gaining back a ton of weight during recovery, and I am absolutely terrified of it.  I have a team of doctors, but they can't be with me at night if sudden binges occur.  How can I put on the weight in muscle and not in fat?  At 5'4", my lowest weight was 92 lbs... Thank you for your responses.

I am not an expert, but I *have* been reading about weight training a lot lately and it seems like that's the best way to gain weight with muscle, not fat. food-wise, you'd need to eat lean meats, lots of 'healthy fats' meaning things that contain Omega-3 type fats (including fish oil and avocado among other things). again (I stress this because I feel like it's super important and sometimes we dieters don't want to hear it) you have to be sure to eat well in order to support yourself in a weight-building program. check out a Muscle and Fitness Hers (or go find it online if you can't get your hands on a magazine) - they have REALLY great advice on how to eat and they also give all kinds of tips on how to work out, too, depending on what you want. it's my new favorite magazine.

congratulations on moving on to a healthy life - and good luck!

Thanks so much for the advice.  I know it's a long process and that I actually need to need more calories in order to get toned.  It's just a hard concept to face, and I'm finally accepting the fact that I can't be perfect at everything.  I want my life to get back to normal, but I want it to do so in a way where my weight doesn't skyrocket.  It's a slippery slope, I guess.

yes, it *is* a slippery slope. but starving yourself can be a slippery slope as well! so just remember it's all about striking a balance. just make up your guidlines and stick to them. and make sure one of those guidlines is to be healthful in your approach to food, your body and Life in general... I know you can do it! and keep us posted on your progress!
