I'm BORED with my workout. I miss high school sports. So the logical conclusion I drew was that I need to join a recreational sports team. Sports Monkey has a bunch of different co-ed rec sports, and I was thinking that having a CC team would be awesome! Maybe not for winter since the holidays are so busy but maybe a league that starts January? I'm only semi-athletic (especially with 30lbs of fat on me that don't need to be there, lol!), but I'm a good team player! I'm competitive without being overbearing and psycho, and mostly just looking to have fun, and keep losing the weight I have on me!
Anyone interested in basketball, kickball, softball or flag football? I think you have to have 8-12 people for each team, and 2-3 women for a co-ed team (there are no all girl teams... weird, huh), so if there's anyone out there who might be interested in doing a fun, once a week rec sport, let me know! :-)
(Fair warning: I suck at softball and I haven't played basketball in almost ten years, but I can practice a bit between now and January so I won't be completely embarrassing... And anyone interested, we can get together and practice before joining a league too... C'mon, it'll be fun!) :-)
Okay, I suck at pretty much all sports but if it's just for fun I am completely willing to make a fool of myself while loosing weight. I do not have a vehicle and am bruise like a banana...because I'm a cluts but no blood it's funny and practice while making new friends always sounds good...talking about basketball, kickball, softball or flag football and NOT politics GREAT.
Yes, I will play; but I have some knee issues. I don't mind giving it a try if you don't mind losing. LOL. It has been quite a while since I've participated in organized sports aside from the family reunions. I just want to have fun while losing weight with like minded people. What is Sports Monkey & what part of the city? I'm at the edge of Katy.
Hi! I'd like to play... I cannot catch anything tho, my eye-hand coordination is not good at all... but I can run ;)
I played flag football once & found out that I'm a good defender. I don't mind loosing either - I rather have a FUN team. Where are the games? I'll play pending on the location
Hello! I'm interested in joining. I played softball in high school (a LONG time ago) and participated on a co-ed team after I moved to Houstin in 2002.
More information please...
Well as fate always proves weight loss is an ephemeral process-- back up to 164 this am--so much for a day without swimming and eating saturated fat I guess. After the rain stopped I forced myself to get out and walk the 3.5 mile half of the circuit around near by golf course-- it took me about 70 minutes door to door which according to my calorie counter represented about 285 kcal.
How amazing in about the same time I could have tripled the calorie burn and with half the effort if i'd been swimming. There is something so easy about not having to defy gravity not to mention letting the water wash away your sweat as you move. Thank God only a day and I'll be back in the water again with my Master's Swim team.
There are Master Swim teams peppered across the gulf coast area and they'll help newcomers get up to speed. The point is we all have to find the excercise we enjoy if we're going to burn those Easter or Passover Feasts. Right?
Hi. I just joined this online group.. did yall ever form a team? If not, I'd definitely be down for joining with yall. . . kick ball sounds so fun :) I'm also super bored with the gym, and am looking into different ways to be active after work. I went to a boxing gym last week, and I'm thinking about giving tap dancing a go... Anyone wanna try it with me?? I also just started roller blading for the first time in about 12 years, so if anyone ever wants a partner for that, let me know...
I totally forgot about this post until today when I was once again lamenting the fact that I don't have a team sport to play! Okay, so I'm trying again... How many of ya'll are still interested? I'm leaning towards flag football or kickball, but I'm open to suggestions and really, really just want to have a steady team thing to do!
Thanks ya'll! :-)
What about Ultimate Frisbee? We used to play all the time in college, it would be really fun to play again. It can be played with a minimum of 4 people with multiple skill levels. Also, it's a good co-ed game so we can bring our boyfriends/husbands/male friends. Anyone near Rice U./Medical Center? Baldwin Park has a big open space in the middle of it, I think, if anyone is near there.
I'm in Midtown, so I'm pretty near the Rice/Med Center area... I've never actually played ultimate frisbee... I'm afraid I won't be able to throw a frisbee in a straight line ('cuz I never could as a kid), but I'm totally up for the challenge! It sounds like it might work out if we can find a group!
Any other takers? :-)
P.S. I'm still up for kickball too! Just let me know!
